If one thing was for certain, it was that Ethan was a liar. And one thing a liar knew was when others lied.

Sitting down at an empty dinner table with only your mom was awkward in itself but the fact that the rest of the family was dead tended to add to the awkwardness. Especially when your mom was ignoring the elephant in the room; slicing at her well-done steak and taking sips of her burgundy wine while her only living son was sitting across the table. She doesn't spare him a glance.

"Hey, mom?" Ethan only gets a hm? in reply. "Before Richie left... what was that case you had to leave the state for?" Ethan couldn't help but ask; it was something that had been bothering him for years because his mom never once went out of her way for a case.

"Ethan we've talked about this before," his mom finally spares him a glance, "I can't tell you classified information."

"Right," so Ethan drops the conversation for the rest of the dinner, they eat in silence with the only noise being the knife against the plate when it slices through the steak. But it still bothered him.

There was so much going on; the death of more than half your family was something to be taken care of. And the growing need for revenge that kept infesting his mind wasn't helping. But still, there was this little bug crawling around in his mind that kept whispering what was that case?

So here Ethan was, coming over and standing behind his mom while she sits in her chair in the living room. It was silence other than the pages turning of her book every so often.

"Ethan," his mom's voice takes over the room. It demands respect. "This case isn't as important as you like to think it is. Just drop it."

And the thing was Ethan knew she was lying. It took a liar to raise one and while his mom was a good liar, he just happened to be one too. This case was important, the bug hissed.

But he drops it, he walks away with his fingers tangled together behind his back. He masks his footsteps because he knows everything about this house; what floorboards to avoid to not make any noise. The Baileys did not like noise, especially at night so he had to adapt and well, it came in handy for moments like this.

Going around the stairs, he finds himself in his mother's office. It hasn't been touched since she had left, but the paperwork was all still here. And he is quiet as a mouse when he pulls open a file cabinet. He doesn't know why he thinks it would be filed by date and not by name, but he is disappointed by the last names written elegantly on the separators.

His gaze falls on one specific one in the back of the drawer in the C section.

"What do you mean Sidney was attacked?" Was the first thing that left Tara's mouth as soon as she was through the door. Chad trailed in behind her. Sam looked at her sister, not even thinking about what had gone on between her and Chad. She was far more concerned about Sidney and their safety.
