Sage
Safe to say, I don't go back to sleep after my time of self reflection and wallowing in pity.
My bedside table alarm rings before I step out of my bedroom into the kitchen.
I don't necessarily eat much during breakfast, so I pull out some fruits from my refrigerator. Today being a weekday means exhausting a lot of energy in meetings and taking care of paperwork, leaving me spent at the end of the day. The exact reason I'm cutting up pineapples, apples, watermelons with the mango I'm already biting into.
Fruits are one of the things that keep me happy, sue me. I swear I'm not as pathetic as I sound but I definitely love the way I feel after eating fruits.Putting everything into a glass bowl with a fork, I place the glassware on the island in the kitchen before I turn back to the sink to rinse off my hands. I take a piece of pineapple (like a thief), while walking past into the living room to get my laptop. After retrieving my laptop, I take a seat on the island and finally get to eat my diced pineapples 😁, while checking my email for messages and schedule for the day.
Apparently my first meeting is by 9:45am, before another by 11am. It's definitely looking like a long day and I hadn't read the entire thing. I can definitely see myself enjoy this...I get cut off my train of thoughts by my ring tone across the house. Me being me, left my phone up in my bedroom but thankfully my laptop is synced and works perfectly.
"Hey baby girl" her voice sounds thick like she just woke up on the other end.
"Hey babe. What's going on?" I ask worriedly since I found it odd she'd still be a lot sleepy and decide to call me.
"Nothing really. Just want to check up on you before your day starts", she says.
Now if there's one person's voice that soothes me, it's hers. She has a permanent resting bitch face, is fiesty, stubborn as hail and the biggest teddy bear of all time. My best friend, ladies and gentlemen, Bella Yareli.
"Yareli?", I called her.
She took a few seconds before she answered me, "Yes?"
"Don't lie to me mama", I told her before she takes a deep breath."Have you gotten any sleep, baby girl? What time did you get back?" I asked her again.
"3am. Had to stay at the club till Jakob came in. And I've probably been in bed for about 3 hours", she replies with her voice still coated with sleep.
"And of the 3 hours, you've barely slept for 2 hours, right?", I stated waving the fork in the air.
She chuckles, which gives me my answer.
"Hmmph! You know I'm good right? And you are too." I ask her.
"I knoww but I can't help it. Can't seem to switch off my head or thoughts!", she says sighing while I hear sheet rustling on her end.
"You know what, love, why don't I keep you posted through out my day and you do the same. Also, talk to Jakob for this weekend. You're coming over to mine for a breather", I say while pacing my kitchen with my fork in hand.
"Weekend is the club's highest sale time. We both know it"
"Which is why I said talk to Jakob. He's a co-owner for a reason." I reply sassily, knowing that this particular topic will soon get me pissed. Not at her but Jakob.
As co-owners of the club, Depraved, they each had their duty. Bella's being the administration and books while Jakob handled the front face and PR. Sadly, Jakob is doing nothing but philandering with the girls who come to the club and even sometimes the workers. A whole lot of burden has been on Bella's shoulder to carry which isn't helping her already fragile mental health. And that is pissing me off.
"I'll talk to him though because I've missed you and I haven't seen your ugly face in weeks", Bel replied while yawning.
"Ha Ha indeed. You love this face. I'm picking you up on Thursday from your office at the club, yeah?" I said while taking my empty glass bowl to the sink.
"Never agreed for Thursday but you're the boss", she says tiredly.
"Just get back to bed, baby girl. I'll call you later in the day to check in on you, okay?"
"Yeah Yeah! Bye, love" she says quickly already dozing off.
I chuckle as I cut the call and head upstairs. Bella Yareli and I have been friends since we were 8. We attended the same school and coincidentally left for college to different universities. Didnt last long i transferred to hers and finished up there. I'm so proud of who she's become even with all the demons lurking.

I didn't live up to my consistency and declaration of 2 chapters a week. Sad shit really! But here we are!
