Dazai stood on his front porch, knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.
A few moments later, Chuuya himself answered the door.
"Osamu? What are you doing here?" He asked quietly. "Weren't you spending the day with Oda?"
"I did. I just got back."
"Oh, okay. But why are you here now?"
"I got this for you at the fair." He took the giant puppy plush out from behind his back and held it up in front of him, "I saw this and thought of you," he said with a smile.
Chuuya immediately grabbed it and hugged it.
"A huge, soft, squishy puppy?!"Dazai giggled before replying, "Yep. You like him?"
"I love him!!"
"I'm glad," he said with a sweet smile.
"Was that all you came here for?"
"No actually- there was also something I need."
"What do you need?"
"You."
"Wha-."
Before Chuuya could even finish, Dazai hastily grabbed his hand and dragged him outside and onto the porch, closing the door behind him.
"Osamu, you need to tell me what's going on, right now."
"Words won't cut it," he said as he placed his hand on Chuuya's cheek, and leaned in closer.
Chuuya's eyes widened and his face flushed as he felt Dazai's lips press against his.
He took a step back, creating a small gap between their lips.
He stroked the side of the ginger head and wore a soft smile, "Is it starting to make sense now, Chuuya?"
The orange haired boy just stood there and blinked—barely able to hear Dazai over the sound of his heart beating in his chest.
"B-but- but what about Oda?! I-I thought you liked him??!"
"I do like him, but just as a friend. In fact- he's the reason I'm here right now."
"Hah?"
"I've always had feelings for you, but when we got to middle school.. I felt pretty hopeless that you would ever return those feelings. So I tried to lock them away. But-," he paused and let out a laugh, "Odasaku pointed out that I did a terrible job suppressing and hiding the fact that I was hopelessly in love with you."
"You... you.. love.. me..?"
Dazai looked into Chuuya's eyes with a soft, loving expression, "Mhm. Always have. Always will."
That's all Chuuya needed to hear. All the reassurance he could've asked for—was right there.
He wrapped his arms around the brunettes neck and kissed him.
All the feelings of dread and doubt fading away as the two embraced each other at long last.
Chuuya then broke the kiss and looked up at Dazai, "I love you, too, you idiot."
Dazai's cheeks were rosy and his face wore the brightest smile as he gazed at Chuuya.
"Hey um- can I stay at your house tonight?" Chuuya asked shyly.
"Yeah, of course. You're always welcome to stay the night."
"Kay," his eyes lit up, "I'll go grab my bag real quick."
"Alright. I'll be here," he replied sweetly.
Chuuya went inside to pack up his toothbrush and an extra pair of clothes in a small backpack. He told his Dad where he was going and then headed back outside.
"Okay. I'm all set and ready to go," he said with a giggle as he grabbed Dazai's hand.
The brunette smiled once more as he intertwined their fingers. "To Narnia!"
"Hehe, to Narnia!"
The two boys giggled together as they ran hand in hand down the street to Dazai's house.
