Snape stared at the boy he watched grow up, sitting on the railing of the astronomy tower as he pleaded for them to get down on the solid floor of the tower and not the snowy rocks below. "Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't hurt the girl and boy you love, your best friends. You jump, they'll be alone, and you'll be alone. You'd be leaving Draco alone...for him to grow up bitter and miserable... you and your mother are all that boy has right now.. don't you want to make amends with your father? Let all of it out.." He pleaded the silence, and a soft sniffle was heard "Professor please if today is the last day I'll have seen my friends and brother, promise me you'll tell them I'm sorry and I love them." He asked, turning his face to the side, eyeing the Professor they grew fond of.
Snape hesitated to see the sincerity in the student's eyes. The eyes that once showed determination and rebellion now were dull and so tired looking. Finally, he answered, straining his voice to not shake. "I won't, because today won't be the last day. Just step down, life's a war. I'd expect you to have understood that by now." He answered, and they sighed, turning back. "You know, after finding out about my father... I didn't think I'd make it. I wrote a not for everyone." They sniffled their voice, almost happy sounding, Snape couldn't help but question how long they'd been able to trick others with it. Their hand loosened. "If you take down the barrier, I can help you. You have people who care. Are you going to leave them?" Snape asked, trying to sound stern and upset but was betrayed as his voice cracked with concern.
'You can't do this.'
"Professor, I'd like to apologize." The legs that'd been curled around the bars only hung down.
'Not now.'
"I'm sorry for not being better." Their fingers loosened as the barrier became stronger.
'Not to them
"I'm sorry for what you'll have to tell the others." They leaned over further. Snape warily moved closer, trying to be silent.
'Not to me.'
"Please forgive me for the stupid choices I make." They smiled looking at Snape, tearing streaming down as Snape tried to grab them rushing over.
'Please no.'
They fell out of his grasp just barely. He saw their face as they smiled like they used to when everything was OK.
He broke down turning away unable to watch the child he help raise for the past 5 years fall to their death, his cries became gasps, it was undeniable as the sound of a body hitting the rocky snow echoed, ginny quickly made it up seeing Snape facing away from the rails almost quietly crying as his shoulder shook slightly, when he saw ginny he rushed over as she tried to make her way to the rails fear clouding her mind and eyes. "Don't look.. they wouldn't want you seeing them like...that." She knew immediately as the words left the Professor's mouth she began to cry as well. The sounds of pained grief.
Optional fluff[?]: Snape shot up, realizing where he was. He was in bed. He'd gotten this nightmare many times after the incident, it'd been years but here he was a grown man who'd lived through a war and almost got killed by an overgrown snake, still scared about an exe student who now worked as a professor at the same school he had. He checked the time noticing it was 4 am groaning he decided to try and get more sleep, a photo caught his eye, a framed photo of himself and y/n talking about something he didn't even remember now, all he knew was albus took it and gave it to him as a gift. He couldn't be prouder of his student, happily married, and has kids. What else could a man ask for?
