I cut the light on and look at the phone. It looks exactly like mine even the scratches. The only thing is that it's not my phone. When I go through it none of the contacts are there or texts not even pictures and apps. I text Selena and Kimberly. They text back 'Who is this?' I sit down on the bed and look through the phone over and over again until a message pops up.
'Got a job for you. Meet me tomorrow at the lake by midnight.' My heart starts to race. Benito is keeping secrets and I don't know if this is my phone or if he did this on purpose knowing I would look for it if I suspected he had it. I thought I dropped it and I never called for help or checked to see if I had it. That was the dumbest move ever.
Benito knocks on the door. I lay down and hide the phone under my pillow. Benito: I got the water. I think we should talk. Are you still awake? I don't answer him. He walks away and goes back in his room.
Benito's sister comes to me in the morning. Benito's sister: Give me the phone. "What? What are you talking about? What phone?" She closes the door and locks it. Benito's sister: Benito will be in trouble. I saw it. Put the phone back. Please. He's my brother and I never get to see my parents. I don't want him hurt. "Hurt, how?"
Benito's sister: All I saw was him laying there on the ground and you, they took you and I was all alone. Your mother never woke up. You have to believe me. "I guess I do. How else would you have known about me and about the phone." She looks at me with sad eyes. Benito's sister: Another thing is, don't tell Benito but soon you two will have your own mansion and your mom will be awake. You'll take care of me. I saw the future. Everything I tell Benito comes true. He didn't believe me and this happened. I told him they would come for me and you. But he beat him. Now we are here. I look at her. "I'll put the phone back but maybe you should go watch cartoons and eat." She nods and leaves.
I look at the phone. I write down the message and look around to find Benito. He is in the kitchen so I put the phone back and go back to the kitchen and we eat breakfast.
Benito: So um.. Did you find anything in my room? "No. Why? Like what?" Benito: Never mind. Oh um.. Your phone. I have it. He gives me the phone. "For how long?" Benito: I thought you would leave or try and tell people you were here. So I kept it a secret. But now there is another phone and it's missing and we can end up in danger if I don't find it. I look at him. "I'm here to help. But how can I trust you when you keep big secrets away from me?" I get up and leave.
Mom's heart beat stays at a steady rate. "Mom wake up. For me." I hold her hand and sit there. "We will get out of here and we should probably move. But if not and you don't wake up then I am going to find out the truth about Benito and leave. I will get a job and finish school. I just want you to know I am an angel and I got bit so I am a vampire too. I am going through some tough changes. Not like puberty. I miss you. I don't want to lose you and dad. I'm only sixteen. At least wake up on my birthday that would be the best gift ever." I look at her and leave.
Benito: You okay? "Yeah." I go in the bathroom and get dressed. When I come out Benito is sitting on the floor. Benito: You lied. When did you put it back? "I wanted to tell you but I thought you would be mad." He looks at me. Benito: All I want is to keep you safe and my little sister. Your mother is not improving so there is not much I can do. But whenever you pass out or your heart rate increases hers does. Maybe if I can find a way or a spell I can wake her up but she will not be your mother. The one you remember.
He gets up. Benito: I know you saw the message. Don't follow me because if you do you are putting everyone here right now in danger. "But I can help. Just tell me what is going on. Who you really are." Benito: You wouldn't trust me if you knew me. This is me but I am also someone else and I do not want to have to hurt you if you find out. Stay out of it and I promise you and your mother can leave safely. "I'm going to find out, and you can't stop me." Benito: Don't yell that you need help. Because I will not help you.
