Chapter Twenty- Five

Lincoln woke late the next morning in pain.  He hadn't slept well all night.  Finding a comfortable position had been impossible.  Every time he had woken in the night Sam had been there, sleeping, fully clothed, on Connor's bed.    He was gone now, but Lincoln saw a glass of water and some tablets next to his bed.  A post it in Sam's handwriting saying "Take two of these when you get up, then two every four hours" was stuck to the glass.  He smiled at this care and gulped them down.

He eased himself up and down the stairs.  Debs was in the kitchen, cleaning, when he came in.  She pulled a chair out for him at the breakfast bar.  "Sit, Sit" She ushered.

He carefully sat down.

"Why aren't you at work?" he asked, sipping the juice she gave him.

"I took the morning off to look after you of course.  Your Dad will be here this afternoon. No school for you today."

"I'll be alright.  I'll get dressed and go in now" said Lincoln.  He didn't want Theo and Nathan to think he was afraid.

"No, you are resting today young man.  I will bring your duvet down and you can relax on the sofa.  The hospital said at least 48 hours complete rest or those ribs won't heal" instructed Debs, "Now go and get on that sofa and I will bring you in some toast."

Lincoln gave into her demands.  It was nice to be mothered.  He certainly missed it.

After she had fixed him lunch, Lincoln managed to convince her that he didn't need her or Sam here.  Sam had insisted on speaking to him and he had convinced him as well.  After all, all he was going to do was watch TV and not move.  He didn't need supervision.

Debs came into the living room, fixing an earring on as she spoke.

"Do you have everything you need?"

"Yep, I am fine."

"My number is in the phone.  Call me if you need me, I'm only twenty minutes away.  The others will be back after school and your Dad is going to get home a bit early."

"He really doesn't need to on my account."

She gave him a smile.  "He is your father, he is worried.  Get used to it."

The doorbell rang.  "Always when I am late" she muttered, heading to the door.

Linc heard voices.

"Lincoln, you have guests.  Bye"

The door to the lounge was opened by Luca.

"Hey Luca" smiled Lincoln, hurting his cut lip in the process.

Sergeant Kramer came in behind him.  Lincoln's smile dropped.
