The two cats padded through the unfamiliar ground. The forest around them was thick, and it almost sundown.
"Bear, I'm scared," One of the cats whispered in a shaky voice.
"I am too, Dove," Bear wrapped his tail around her.
They continued walking. The two were desperate to find a new home. As they walked on with shaking legs, Bear came to a halt.
"You smell that?" He whispered.
"What?" Dove sniffed the air. Her eyes went wide as sources. "Cats!"
Bear nodded, his dark brown pelt beginning to rise.
"Bear, we have to run!" Dove's voice sounded scared. Her black and white striped pelt pushed Bear back. "Come on, Bear! We have to!"
"Dove, run! I'll hold them back!" Bear's yellow eyes stared deeply into Dove's amber ones. "I'm sorry."
"Mouse brain! I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to. It's the only way you'll survive."
"And you?"
Bear was silent. He sighed and looked away from Dove. "Me, I won't live. But if it means saving you, I will do anything."
"You're not saving me, then! We'll both fight!" Dove padded in front of Bear. She lifted his head with her tail. "I'd rather die with you than anyone."
"Then let's fight!" A small smile crept across his face.
Four cats emerged from the thick trees. They licked their lips and stared at the loners.
"Oooh! Loners! How I love feeling their body's go limp!" A grey spotted tom said as the cats began circling them.
"Yes...Wolfstar will be very pleased!" A brown she-cat stepped forward.
"Don't you lay a claw on her!" Bear growled, standing defensively in front of Dove.
Dove admired the tom's braveness, but couldn't allow it. She wouldn't let him die for her. If any one of them died, they would die together.
"You want a fight!?" Dove hissed. "You can have one!"
"Zzzz...What was that? You're talking bored me! Ok, we'll get to the us killing you part, now, shall we?" The brown she-cat rolled her yellow eyes.
"You'll have to fight us first!" Bear snapped. He hadto admit, he wasn't the best fighter in the forest, or the best hunter, but hewould do anything to save Dove...
