Professor Neuhaus explained a lot of things to me, Tori and Rin. Turns out his wife was brought back not because he wanted her to be, but for some other reason. He seemed to leave out one important detail, however.
"What about our mom?" Tori asked before I could. Rin seemed confused.
"Your mother?" Neuhaus asked, confused also.
"Yumi Kanto?" I continued for her.
"She was the main researcher, right?"
"She was the head researcher, yes. But she did not create the lab, if that's what you're asking. I barely met the woman, what does she have to do with-"
"She's alive. Your own wife told us that, they were brought back to life at the same time."
"I was never informed of such a thing. But if that's the case, then she won't be alive long. They're just corpses with demons living in them. They won't last more then a few more days."
"Bullshit!" Tori slammed her fist on the table, but I pushed past her and got close to Neuhaus's face.
"I know that can't be true, even if she is a corpse. Because she's the same woman, the same lady that gave birth to us sixteen years ago and died sixteen years ago. If that's true, then she'll find a way to be alive for her own kids."
"It's true, she's just a corpse! And how would you know she's the same person? She could have changed by now-"
"Because I talked to her. I saw her with my own eyes and I know as sure as my birthday that she is the same woman that was full of life and passion for her job and the children she never got to see grow up."
"Woah woah woah, how'd you see her?" Shura asked, pulling me away from Neuhaus.
"I saw her, I won't tell you when."
"No, this is extremely important. How in the hell did you see her?" She gripped my arm tightly.
"I'm not telling you!"
"If you care for your life and Tori's life then you will tell me!"
"What do you mean?" Rin asked, now confused.
"I won't tell! Let me go!" I yanked my arm away from her, purple flames erupting out of fear and anger. Shura stared evenly at me.
"Those flames..." Neuhaus began slowly, staring at me.
"Yeah, what about 'em?" I said, already putting myself out.
"I've never seen anything like it. There are only three kinds of flames, red, black and satans own hellfire." He glanced at Rin as he said the last part.
"So what?"
"The point is, what do they do?" Shura said.
"You've seen them. Besides, what does this have to do with anything?"
"Nothing at all, except that they go against everything. What do they do, do they burn a demon or the vessel?"
"Why don't we talk about this later, alright? Because right now I-"
"I wanna know where and when you saw your mom. The most wanted woman to the Vatican and here you are, sipping tea with her and having a nice chitchat."
"I saw her when I fell asleep earlier today, at school. And we weren't having tea, she was telling me I had to fucking die, if that's a nice chitchat." I pushed past Shura to the door of the room.
"Where do you think you're going?" Shura called.
"Anywhere but here." I walked until I was in front of the door we came in through, but I didn't have a key to get back. So I just sat behind it so Shura wouldn't see me and pushed my knees to my chest. After a while I heard Shura and Rin talking and Rin left, leaving me to no sounds or anything. After I thought everyone had left the door opened and Shura stood behind it, staring down at me.
