Quick, excited
Rush of words,
Pouring out,
Exalted river.
Speaking loudly,
Smiling widely,
Sharing all the joys to the Person Who Listens
The Person Who Listens laughing,
Smiling
The joy in the words bringing them joy
The other's excitement
Is their excitement
And they are lured in
By their words
The Person Who Speaks
Runs out of words,
Runs out of breath,
And says,
"Why don't you give it a go?"
The Person Who Listens decides they will try
They open their mouth,
Then they close their mouth
They think, they ponder
And they think some more
"What subject were you talking about?"
They ask their dearest friend
The Person Who Speaks
Tilts their head and smiles
"It doesn't matter
"Say what you like:
"What makes you happy,
"What makes you sad,
"What brings some feelings into your life
"And don't worry,
"As long as you speak,
"I'll be here to listen
"And so, I'll be feeling, too"
The Person Who Listens,
Tries once again,
They have an idea inside of their head
That they wish to explore much more in depth
And so they open their mouth
They take a deep breath,
And out come the words they've been meaning to say
They said what they had to,
But in that time they found much more to learn,
Much more to say
And so, for some time at least,
The Person Who Listens is the Person Who Speaks
The Person Who Speaks was glad to take the backseat
They watched their friend's face as they spoke
They saw all the emotions that flitted by,
And without looking, they knew
Those emotions were reflected on their own face
They watched their friend,
And they felt warm,
Watching them explore their interests
And so, for some time at least,
The Person Who Speaks is the Person Who Listens
And so in time,
They developed,
They learned,
They watched their language grow
Their thoughts became much more complex, more silly, more thoughtful
They learned more and more
From each other,
And as they grew,
They grew more on each other,
Their language expanding beyond words
There were times where they could both speak and both listen,
Times where they both would sing,
And then there were times where they just sat in silence
And enjoyed their company
