"You're going through with this?" Christoff asked, "You're aware of the risks, right?"
"Of course I'm aware but there is no risk. I'm the one who perfected this procedure in the first place." Beth replied.
"Maybe, in theory, on monkeys and artificially. Never with a human brain."
"Well, there's no better time than now. If Vecna is coming back-"
"I don't know where you're even getting that idea."
"I saw those things out in the woods. One of the lab techs brought me a sample. Are you forgetting what happened 37 years ago? I know you have the files you run this place for fuck's sake." She snorted.
"It was taken care of." He replied, "I also told you that even if it wasn't, which it was, any power he may have would be miniscule."
"For now, maybe." She replied, "Not for long and when he does start feeding again he's not taking my daughter."
"Vecna...Henry, is not taking anyone, Beth, because he's gone, dead, dealt with, done."
"You don't know that, no one knows that. This is my department and my child, no one is putting you at any risk so why don't you back off and let me do what I do best." She snapped. He shook his head as if he thought she had lost her mind but did step away and leave the room.
The most eerie part of this interaction was watching it from outside of her body. It was an event Cordelia did not have in her memory. Though she was laying on an operating table hooked up to a bunch of monitoring equipment she was not awake. Not that she recalled. She guessed it was possible this was all buried in her subconscious and she'd heard it but that didn't make sense either. She also had no clue when this had taken place or what her mother was referring to. Obviously some procedure to protect her from this Vecna guy but that was as much as she could gather.
"Vecna," She muttered, "Is that his name?" Christoff, who was her mother's commanding officer, but only by a small margin when it came to rank, had also said Henry. She'd only run into one creature here that also spoke to her and appeared to be a threat. It also had a very deep, male voice but no other features that would easily determine gender. That was until she'd heard that second name. This thing must be male in some capacity, she guessed that would explain the tentacle vines. What her mother was worried about. Something that seemed to be a part of him. Shaking off her confusion she took a few steps forward, trying to look at what her mother had pulled up on the monitor she was looking at. She barely had time to see anything before the vision dissolved around her and she was back in the pitch black void she'd started in.
