That night, Shadow and I were still awake, trying to figure out a strategy for us to fall asleep. Then, I remembered the lullaby my mother used to sing to me when I was little. "Any ideas?" asked Shadow. "Yes," I say. "It was a song my mom used to sing to me when I was little about a special place." "Can you sing it for me? Please?" he asked. "As you wish," I say. "Cuddle close, scooch in."

🎵Where the North wind meets the sea

There's a river full of memory

Sleep, my darling, safe and sound

For in this river, all is found🎵

I caress Shadow's quills as I continue singing. I could tell that he was getting sleepy and so was I.

🎵In her waters, deep and true

Lie the answers and a path for you

Dive down deep into her sound

But not too far or you'll be drowned🎵

🎵Yes, she will sing to those who'll hear

And in her song, all magic flows

But can you brave what you most fear?

Can you face what the river knows?🎵

🎵Where the North wind meets the sea

There's a mother full of memory

Come, my darling, homeward bound

When all is lost, then all is found🎵

When I finish, I look down and see Shadow fast asleep on my lap. I silently chuckle and caress his quills a

bit more before I, too, drifted off to sleep.
