James and Kiro were determined to get Samantha back, even if it meant putting their own lives at risk. As they made their way through the dark, twisting corridors of the cult's compound, they could hear Samantha's voice echoing in the distance. She was still trying to convince them to join the Cult of Light, but there was a faint hint of uncertainty in her voice.

Finally, they found her, sitting alone in a dimly lit room. She was hunched over, her face buried in her hands. Kiro approached her first, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"Samantha, it's us. It's Kiro and James. We're here to help you."

At first, Samantha didn't respond. She was lost in her own thoughts, consumed by the cult's brainwashing. But as James approached her, a glimmer of recognition sparked in her eyes.

"James... Kiro... I remember now," she said, her voice weak and trembling. "I remember who I am."

James and Kiro exchanged a relieved glance. They knew they had to act fast before the cult's leaders found out that they had regained Samantha's allegiance. They quickly made their way out of the compound, with Samantha close behind them.

As they emerged from the building, they were met with the sight of the rising sun. It was a new day, a new beginning. Samantha looked around, taking in her surroundings as if seeing them for the first time.

"What now?" she asked, her voice uncertain.

"We find a safe place to regroup," Kiro said. "Somewhere we can lay low for a while and figure out our next move."

They set out on foot, making their way through the desolate landscape. After hours of walking, they came across a set of walls that seemed to stretch on for miles. They had stumbled upon an unknown community.

As they approached the gate, Samantha noticed something written on the wall. She squinted, trying to make out the words in the fading light.

"Welcome to the Alexandria Safe Zone," she read aloud.

Kiro and James exchanged a stunned glance. They had heard of the Alexandria Safe Zone before - it was a rumored haven for survivors, a place where people were working together to rebuild society. Could it really be true?

As the gate slowly creaked open, they stepped inside, hoping that they had finally found a place to call home. But as they looked around at the smiling faces of the people within, they couldn't help but wonder if it was too good to be true.

The last thing James, Kiro, and Samantha heard before the gate closed behind them was the sound of the dead pounding against the walls. They knew they had found safety, but at what cost?

The end of an era had come, but the beginning of a new one was just beginning.
