Epilogue

I stared at the three little boys chasing a each other in the castle garden. The oldest was Dark Moon, and he was 9. The middle, Crescent, and he was 4. The youngest was 2 years old, and his name was Angst. All of them were my sons.

"OWIE!" Crescent yelled. "That really hurt, Angst."

Angst didn't understand. He just disappeared into a bush. I grabbed him with a tentacle and sat him down in front of me.

"We're not gonna lose you to the hedge monster, Angst," I said. "That happened when Dark Moon was your age. Scared us to death."

Dark Moon looked embarrassed. I patted him on the head.

"Why don't we go inside where Mommy and baby Merciless are? Mommy is baking right now."

"Okay, Dad."

"NIGHT WATCH!"

I grabbed Angst, who almost fell off the countertop he sat on. Crescent shrunk, an anxious look taking over his face.

"Okay... You've caused enough trouble today, bud. Time to put you to bed, like Merciless."

I took him upstairs and rested him in Merciless's crib, which was in Killer and me's room.

And Merciless looked so cute when he slept. His normally lively lavender eyes were shut, and he was on a sort of relaxed position.

Angst, on the other hand, wasn't being very cute right now. He hated naps, and henceforth wasn't having any of this. But we needed to keep him out of trouble so he wouldn't get lost or hurt.

After all, Crescent is too young to be feeling as anxious as he does.

I headed back downstairs, making sure there was no possible way Angst could get out of Merciless's crib. He was a small kid, so it wasn't that hard.

"So, are you gonna help me?" Killer asked. "Cres and Dark Moon are."

"Well... I guess I could. But if I hear one of the boys upstairs I'm making a run for it."

"Okay, Nighty. If you say so."

Helping Killer bake was fun, especially when our four and nine year old sons were helping, too.

But then Merc woke up from his nap, seeking someone's attention, which also woke Angst up. And clearly, Angst did not want to be woken up.

I ran upstairs and cradled Merc in my arms. Angst stared at me grumpily.

"Go back to sleep, bud. I'm taking Merc downstairs to Mommy."

Angst poked his head back down. I went back to the kitchen where Killer was cleaning up.

"The little Moon prince wishes to be held by his mother."

Killer took him, smiling.

"Well, at least they aren't orphans. Horror was right, wasn't he?"

Yeah... He was...
