Thorn sat at the edge of the fire, watching the chicken cook. She had caught the chicken when she was hunting and went back to the lake in hopes of seeing Aster, but he wasn't there. He never arrived. Thorn was starting to worry when she heard a crash in the bush. She slowly crept towards the rustling leaves with her iron sword out, ready to fight whatever was in there. "Aster?!"
Thorn dragged Aster to the fire, taking away some warm pebbles to put on his hands and head. "How do you always manage to hurt yourself when I'm away?" Thorn muttered under her breath, wiping the blood off of his mouth with her thumb. Aster coughed and shuddered, turning his head so his cheek pressed against the cool, cream sand of the lakeside. "Oh my god, Aster, don't move." Thorn leaned towards him, holding her hand against his cheek and moving his head back to face up. They were so close their faces almost touched. Thorn realised and instantly move back, covering her face with her other hand to hide her blushing. "L-let me fix you up." The sun set, stars arriving in the deep blue sky and glowing.
Aster leaned against the tree, his arm against his aching sides. Thorn sat near the fire, her knees up to her chest, watching the flames dance back and forth. "Thorn-" Aster began, "I don't want to talk about it. Can we forget about that? Please?" Thorn said, not breaking her gaze from the fire. "But-" Thorn silenced him with a glare, her emerald green eye glistening with tears. "Thorn, it's ok. I honestly-" Thorn leapt up from the fire and grabbed Aster by the neck. "Don't talk about it or I'll kill you." Aster's eyes shone with fear and anger. "Don't you touch me," he snarled, grabbing her wrists and moving them away. His red eyes glowed dangerously and his talons looked sharper than ever. "Okay, okay. Have it your way."
It was now the morning and they were walking through the forest once more. Aster's stomach rumbled and Thorn turned around to ask if he wanted food, but he looked away, hurt in his eyes. Thorn was starting to regret her decisions. "Look, Aster, I'm sorry-" Thorn was cut off by Aster hugging her tightly. "I forgive you, but I'm still pissed." Thorn didn't answer back, she was too busy being frozen to the spot and blushing.
Thorn couldn't stop thinking about Aster all day, and kept accidentally avoiding him. She could remember in precise detail on how he looked, smelt, felt... she hated this. It wasn't weird, it was just... something. She totally didn't have a crush on him. He looked like he was blushing as well, but Thorn couldn't tell as he buried his face in her shoulder. He smelt... like strawberries and s'mores by the fire. He felt huggable, like, if he was a chair, she'd always sit on it. NOT IN THAT WAY THOUGH. She definitely didn't like him, she was certain.
