The alarm sounded in the morning like any weekday, I dreaded listening to that alarm clock. However, I quickly realized it was Friday and that gave me enough encouragement to get out of bed. I walked like a zombie to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Let’s start with my name, which is Delilah; I am a sophomore in high school, am on the swim team and I enjoy writing.
I met up with Rose, my best friend, when I arrived at school and we walked to our lockers together. While talking to Rose about something boring, my day is made because I see him. I get angry because I know it is pointless falling for him because I know we’ll never talk, he’ll never notice me and all my hopes of us even getting to know each other are in vain. He’s everything, hot, handsome, and cute. His name is Tyson Steele, and he is a junior and can date any girl he wants to. I sigh, and keep walking with Rose in the direction of our first period class together.
When Aaron notices us and starts talking to us
“Hey, ready for swimming tonight?”
“Not anymore than I usually am, but whatever, ” I say
“Well, you should be! Important swim meet coming up, Tyson told me tonight’s practice will be harder than usual,” Aaron continued.
“What? Tyson said what? Tyson? You mean Tyson Steele?” I rushed out before thinking twice. Oh gosh, now he’ll know I have a crush on him.
He looked at me strangely. “Yeah, that Tyson…”
“So, what did he say exactly?”
“Nothing, just said swimming is hard tonight”
I was disappointed that that was all the information I was getting so I just said okay and walked away from Aaron without even saying goodbye. As I was walking I realized I should have said good bye, but then I decided I don’t really care and he probably doesn’t either.
Aaron is Rose’s older brother, I’ve known him for a while, ever since I was little when I went over to Rose’s house, we’d all hang out. He is really nice, kind of cute, and smart. He is friends with Tyson, I’ve seen them together often.
The day passes by like any regular day, nothing special; the dismissal bell rings and I’m ready to leave school. I catch up with Rose and she invites me over to work on a project, I agree and we head to her car to drive to her house.

I am at Rose’s house, working on a project for class. Rose and I really care about our grades, she wants to become a neurosurgeon and I want to be something just as important, I just don’t know what that is yet. There are more options when you have good grades, so I’d like to keep as many options open until I’ve chosen.
Rose’s house is a ranch house, and the down stairs area is completely devoted to Rose and Aaron. Downstairs there is a pool table, a flat screen, a nice couch and a big enough table to work on a project. Oh, and my favorite part, there is a popcorn machine. Rose and I always eat a bunch of popcorn. I’m over at her house more to hang out, and on the side we do some project work. We just have to do a little because we still have a lot of time until it is due and the only reason I was allowed to come over was because I told my parents we’d work on the project.
As I am researching on a laptop, I hear multiple footsteps descending the carpeted stair case. We turn our heads over. I first see Aaron, and I politely smile as a hello, and my eyes wander to the face behind his. I immediately feel awkward when I see him. What is Tyson doing here? I’m thinking about all the reasons why he could be here, trying to formulate a rational reason why he’s here when Rose looks at me and I realize I’ve been staring with my mouth slightly open. Oh gosh, that’s just great, way to make a first impression. I quickly and quite obviously lower my head and my arm hits the popcorn bowl, making a waterfall of popcorn cascade onto the floor. I feel my face emitting heat from embarrassment. Tyson gives me a weird look and Aaron runs over and helps me put the popcorn back in the bowl. I try to cover my face by letting my hair dangle right in front of my face, so that I can’t make further eye contact with Tyson. Maybe, if I blend in and act normal enough, he won’t notice me and completely forget about this catastrophe. Of course, though, nothing ever goes the way I want it to
