The scene clears and focuses as we see two guys argue over something while inside a power plant.
???:Dude can't you carry the damn power cells to the gen room yourself? You know how irradiated the place is ever since they installed their new power core into this power plant for experimental purposes. The reason you're the only one assigned there is because you have a genetic resistance to radiation. I've helped you three times now and I'm not helping you again.
???:Zero come on man don't be so harsh you helped me three times before what's a fourth gonna do?
Zero:What it's gonna do is give me stage four cancer Nate, doc says that I should stay away from irradiated areas for at least a year or two since I'm almost at my limit and you usually force me to come over there without waiting for me to wear the hazmat suit properly, that the company gave us if we ever needed it so now I'm basically risking my life for your laziness.
Nate:Ok-Ok I'll pay for your chemo if you ever get cancer besides I've helped you on your worst so help me ok?
Zero:Fine. . . I still owe you for helping my sister get to college.
Nate:Awesome, I'll wait for you to properly put on the hazmat suit this time. I don't think I'll be able to pay for your chemo completely.
Zero:*Punches Nates arm lightly* Liar.
Me and Nate went over to the decontamination room and put on our hazmat suits. I always thought these were military grade with how durable they were. Nate doesn't seal his properly since his body can take a shit ton of rads and recover twice as fast from it, he just needs the suit to protect him from sudden rad spikes which does help but since he's sloppy he still gets a burst of rads to the face from time to time.
Now that I think about it, this company I work for really is dedicated to their work, I mean the amount of accidents here are near zero despite the work environment. If I remember correctly they were named Siderail or something like that. You would think a name like that would be related to train tracks or something but no. There is a power company that vows to make power plants like these as safe as it could be for both workers and civilians alike ever since the Chernobyl incident back then. But right now the company is taking a risk by doing a public experiment with the brand new X301-4 Power core that was installed here a month ago. The amount of complaints that flooded upper management in day one was a lot but they actually listen to those problems and make solutions than what the other companies do nowadays.
Lately the gen room has a radiation leak from the pipes and ventilation due to the cores energy output and so far they managed to repair most of the pipes but the ventilation was gonna be a problem if I heard right from my colleagues. But before I could think of that further I finished suiting up and my mask was air tight as I breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the tanks were full, good someone filled up the tanks this time.
Nate:*Slightly muffled due to the mask* Ready Zero?
Zero:*Slightly muffled as well*Yeah. . . I just hope I don't get cancer from this, I even strapped myself three times just to make sure my suit doesn't somehow get exposed.
Nate:Good, now take a crate and let's get in there.
Taking a crate full of energy cells me and Nate entered through the irradiated gen room after the doors from behind us had been sealed. We began unpacking and placing the cells into their respective slots. It's boring work so I decided to spark up a conversation to at least make this a little bit enjoyable despite the risk.
Zero:*Places a power cell and looks at nate.* Hey Nate. . . Did you ever hear the news about an abnormally large meteor that's gonna brush past earth today?
