It was not until 1979 that he found out why the twins avoided the Marauders so thoroughly. Back in those years, he had thought it was pride or disgust or a mixture of both. That was why all the others did it, after all. But, yet again, no one avoided them so religiously as the twins.

Mavis Curron could only have been spied from a distance by his eye. Her sharp features were always in the shadows of secretive brown curls. Her hair was cut short, barely brushing her shoulders. Her skirt was always long enough to cover her knees and her shirt was untucked, yet a speck of red at her neck revealed her House pride. She walked around with her walkman and her wild hair covering her flimsy headphones, sometimes humming a song to herself.

Ashley Curron had longer hair, yet the same chocolatey colour. She pulled it back into a messy ponytail. Sometimes her thin, silver wire glasses rested atop her head after she had finished reading. Her hands were concealed by the sleeves of oversized sweaters and she liked to carry a mug around with steaming tea in it. There were always countless silver rings on her fingers and pendants around her neck, and she wore dangling silver earrings with star-like gems. She had a eccentric obsession with honey. There were times she put a spoonful in her tea, and others she came into class eating it from a glass jar.

It wasn't till the end of fifth year that he found out which one was which. Remus had always bolted whenever either of them was nearby, and James followed. It didn't seem like either boy noticed the other's behaviour.

But he liked them. They were the only ones who called him "Pete" and he didn't feel like he was an outcast when he was among them. The Marauders were all tall and handsome and had girls hanging onto their every word. But Peter Pettigrew felt like he was worth something around the twins. Maybe that's why he was happy when in fifth year everything had changed.

Don't worry, I'm not counting this as a full chapter. Another one is on its way. I hope you enjoy.
