"Get up, you oaf," Mavis growled.

"Shut up."

"We're going to be late to class!" she answered, trying to push him off the bed.

"Like I care!"

Mavis then stood up and began to frantically tie her shoes. Her book bag was on the chair where Sirius had sat last night. She grabbed it and secured it over her shoulder.

Somehow, by the time she was ready to leave, Sirius had managed to roll out of bed and already had everything on him.

"I've got charms first," Mavis whined. "How am I going to get all the way across campus in two minutes?"

Sirius groggily ran his hand through his hair, and motioned her to follow him.

They walked out of the hospital wing, but apparently Mavis' speed was lacking, because Sirius grabbed her hand and pulled her along. They walked through hallways that Mavis had never seen before, and soon she was right in front of the charms classroom.

"How'd you do that?" she asked breathlessly.

"I spent much of my time the last few years wandering around Hogwarts by myself, or nearly training myself to death on the quidditch pitch."

"I've heard a knife is much more useful on that account," she said darkly.

"You didn't..." Sirius was suddenly terrified.

But Mavis only shrugged.

"It's like you didn't read the letter."

"Well sorry for thinking you were only trying to be dramatic."

"Aw, you little sucker," she said, mussing his hair. "Feel free to be as naive as you want, if it makes you feel better about life."

Sirius rolled his eyes.

"Wow! You're letting me touch your hair? Where's the real Sirius and what have you done with him?

"It's nearly time for class," Sirius said, pretending to not hear her last comment. "Off you go. Don't torment the teachers too much."

Mavis stuck her tongue out at him and walked off.

"Don't be a know-it-all!" Sirius shouted after her.

"Yes mum!"
Sirius sighed.

How could it be that one moment she could barely look at him and the next she was bickering with him like nothing had happened? He decided that it was just because they both had a good night's sleep, because everything else seemed just too complicated.

Sirius was around half an hour late to muggle studies, where both the teacher and Remus glared at him as he walked in.

"Sorry?" Sirius shrugged and just took his seat next to the werewolf.

Sirius didn't bother unpacking his textbook. Whatever he missed in class he was sure to hear from Remus about a thousand times.

"Did you stay out on the pitch all night?" Remus asked, referring to Sirius' failure to return to the Marauder's dorm last night.

"Something like that."

Remus frowned at him but said nothing else.

Class was over and Sirius raced out of the classroom before another word could be spoken. He made it all the way to Mavis' charms classroom before she even walked out the door.

"Did you even go to class?"

"Maybe, maybe not," Sirius shrugged, his hands tucked into his front pockets.
