As the marrow of today's sunrise set over Patch, the morning dew cast tranquillity over the Island. The droplets sparkle and pierce the eyes, shimmering, creating an awe-inspiring light. All was calm throughout Patch. The Xiao Long Cabin is equally as harmonious. No children screaming or laughing, just the chipper sounds of the early morning. Baggy eyes and lumbering heavy steps of the Sovereign creaked throughout the silent house, the whistle of tea brewing overshadowing her movements.
"Tea?" Summer asked. Ozen nodded in unison as she groggily made her way to the table, uncomfortably straddling herself in a chair, face dug into her palms. A thick navy journal plopped down, its cover etched in yellow "I.I" The clinks of porcelain echoed as it sat down, the sploshing of amber liquid following. "I take it you didn't get much sleep?" Unmoving from her hands, the Sovereign shook her head, letting her palms drag her face as they moved downwards.
"Rough night, rough, rough night. Seems I had gotten sick after reading this journal."
"Unlucky, but it isn't all bad for you today," Summer mused, intermediately taking sips between sentences. "Tai took the kids out for the day, Yangs... a bit distant, and Qrow has huntsman duties. Do you have anything in particular to do, Ozen?" Tasting the brew as Summer set her own down, it was a bold palette of citric notes.
"I may, but I think I'd need some assistance." A quick clap of the mother's hands as she leaned forward in her seat, trying to read Ozen from the opposite end of furniture. A warm smile hid her motives. "Isolde Isa, she was the woman that went missing, though I take you had some knowledge of that?" A nod in response.
"Well, right here within this book details her descent into insanity. Would you like to see it?" Summer's palms raised in alertness as she slumped into her chair. "I'm alright, thanks. But I don't see how this is productive for you. Her disappearance case stopped investigation ages ago. If you want to find a missing person, I'd suggest contacting the authorities.
"Unless," Just as Ozen was losing interest, her eyes closing and fist balancing her cheek, she fluttered a look open in a spark of interest. "This is also related to the Sea Grimm. Judging by your reaction, I'm right, aren't I?" A coy smirk appeared on the Sovereign's face, recognising Summer's assumption.
"Summer, what's in this journal has stopped concerning just myself. I think you should at least humour it." Sliding the book to Summer, her eyes slowly crossed between Ozen and the journal. The whites of her eyes were on display, and her breath halted. "It seems Isa believed that this Sea Grimm was almost godlike. I'm sure you can see merit in how this could be dangerous."
A sigh admissions defeat as Summer reluctantly opens the text. Her eyes skim over words as she peers at irrelevant information. An eyebrow soon raised as she gazes at Ozen, smirking, her eyes bending to show her utmost enjoyment. The Sovereigns palm upholds her face as the font noticeably becomes more deranged. Summer's face noticeably scrunches as she discovers the maddening of the poor lady.
"What...did I just read?"
"Intriguing, isn't it?" A cheeky sip popped Ozen's statement. "Okay, I kinda see it. But I'm still not convinced. It's cryptic and a little bit saddening, but I don't think it means you should look into it this deeply." The book slid back towards the Sovereign, irritated at the denial.
"Well, I have an idea, Summer. Why don't we go to the cliffside? We can figure out whether or not this is worth anything, and it gives us an excuse to leave the house. What do you say?"
"...Fine, family Jeep let's go." Surprisingly, there wasn't much retort, though her expression portrayed exhausted happiness. A ride to take the edge off family matters might've been the real purpose.
