David had pulled up in front of her house debating with himself whether he should call her or knock after a minute he knocked on her door after checking his breath, fresh and minty. They had agreed on hanging out and didn't talk about it again despite them being in constant contact with one another over text.
He could hear Nia rushing down the stairs to the door before they came face to face with one another. "Wow." She was shocked to say the least. "I didn't think we were still doing this. I thought maybe you forgot."
"Nope, hence my presence unless you're having second thoughts."
"No, no. Of course not. It just slipped my mind for a minute there. I've been going through some things."
He looked her over once more without her noticing. She had a coffee in her left hand and a few books and folders in the other. He took the books saying, "Let's head to school. You look great by the way." He left her standing there with her coffee and a smile spreading to her lips.
"Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself." An understatement. Nia looked over at his car as she walked around it, finally getting a good look at it. The car wasn't flashy and expensive but it was still nice, it was a dark green Honda Accord.
His eyes were a glitz of red as he opened the passenger's door for her. "You always drink coffee in the morning?"
"Every time I get up. I always feel so tired, I don't know why." Nia was putting on her seatbelt, she wasn't ready to tell him about her dreams. He'd think she was crazy. She had placed her bag at her feet. "Your car is so... clean. It looks brand spanking new."
"I pride myself on that fact. You know, your car shows a bit of your character, kinda like a pet. How you take care of it can show the person you are."
"Well shit, what does that say about mine?" She nodded off to her car before he peeled out of the driveway.
Nia was gifted with an old Jeep Wrangler; it conked out a few times but she knew how to repair it thanks to her cousin Mitch, although he'd always used duct tape for his. "It probably wasn't your first choice yet it's something you keep close to your heart. The exterior is a nice color but it wasn't what you wanted."
Nia's smile lit his world on fire and she didn't even notice.
Metallic gray. That's the color she wants but never really had the time to change it. The Jeep was a shade called Pantone, in her opinion it was the world's ugliest.
He had relaxed into the seat, his left hand holding the steering wheel and his right resting in his lap for a moment before he pulled out of the driveway.
"Anything else?"
He took a moment to think. "You care about independence, you're a bit of an adrenaline junkie ... Still you're straightforward and nice to be around."
"You got all of that just from my car?"
"No, just the first half, everything else was... What I observed."
Disbelief was written on her face, he stopped talking after that and turned up the music playing in the background.
"Sounds like you have me down to a T."

They get to school just as the first warning bell rings, he did it on purpose. David wanted to talk a bit more with her and she didn't seem to mind either. They both liked to listen when the other spoke.
"Crap, I need to go, Mrs. Perce is not a forgiving soul," Nia said, managing to joke as she rushed to gather her things from David's car along with the loose papers falling from her folder for the science analysis.
