In two months, not much had changed. Ava had daily tests done on strength, speed, and her radiation/serum shield. We found it wasn't just a force field though. It could also turn into walls, and prevent people with either serum or antidote in their body from attacking each other. And, as each day passed, Ava's abilities seemed to get stronger and stronger.
[13:24]
Ava stood above the testing room, watching some idiot decide if he wanted to become a phantom or not. I sighed, then leaned against the bar, next to her, smirking.
Benjamin: So. How stupid do you think he is?
Ava: Do you want an honest answer? Or an Ava answer?
Benjamin: There's a difference?
We chuckled, then looked back to the testing area, as the guy was injected with the serum. Ava scowled.
Ava, muttering: Damn idiot.
I sighed, feeling like that jab was directed toward me to some degree.
Benjamin: Do you think that people who willingly take the serum are stupid?
Ava shook her head.
Ava: Not always. Sometimes... Just desperate. For something.
I nodded, having a feeling I was right.
Why do I feel like you're talking about me?
Ava gave him a playful glance and smiled.
Ava: You are a phantom, Benji.
I shook my head, smiling.
Benjamin: Seriously? Still, with the 'Benji'?
We laughed until Ava's eyes narrowed, and I looked at her curiously.
Benjamin: What is it?
Ava shook her head, her lips pressed together.
Ava: Probably nothing. I just... I thought I felt another person with serum enter the building. But, maybe it's just from the guy down there.
She gestured to the new phantom in the testing room. I nodded, not believing her. Several minutes passed. Suddenly, she grabbed my shoulder.
Ava: We need to get out of here.
Benjamin, confused: What?
Ava, urgently: We need to leave. Now, Ben.
Suddenly, the building began to shake. I looked at my daughter, listening to her growl of fear.
Benjamin: What the hell is happening?!
Ava: I don't know!
Ava's head snapped toward the exit door.
Ava: Whatever it is... Has to do with that person that came in!
Suddenly, everything seemed to slow down. An explosion blasted through the air. Ava threw the shield up around us, and I threw us to the ground, protecting Ava, and shielding her. Then, everything sped back up. The sonic blast, rushing wind. Then, nothing.
