It was a standard reset up to this point. Stanley wasn't listening, as he usually does, but that wasn't anything unexpected from the man. It was rare when Stanley would actually listen to him. He had always been like that though. It was rather funny, to be honest. He would make funny faces to the cameras, tip over and mess up things, and his favorite things to do was going off task.
The thing that caused The Narrator to enjoy this so much was that he would be able to hear Stanley's laugh. The protagonist would bring his hand to his face and cover his mouth whenever he laughed. You could see that underneath he was grinning. Oh and his smile, how the Narrator adored his smile. He could go on about it for hours. It was so perfect it would light up the whole world.
His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed Stanley frantically moving around in the camera, yelling and shouting if he was alright.
The Narrator quickly turned back on his mic and answered with a worried tone."Oh my, I'm so sorry Stanley! Don't worry, my dear! I'm alright. How about we continue on with the story? Now, where were we?"
He looked back at the monitor Stanley was on to see him at the cargo lift, which had already made it to the top. Stanley looked shocked after what the other man had just said. Did he just call him dear..? His dear??? No, no, that couldn't be right. The protagonist laughed softly at the idea, he did the action that he always did and covered his mouth
Behind the mic, The Narrator's face was flushed a bright red, but he continued on with his normal monologue from this point. His mind was racing with thoughts. "Do I like Stanley??" No, no, he couldn't possibly like Stanley. Could he..?
It made no sense. These thoughts about Stanley had been coming up more and more recently. Every time there was a pause, his mind would wander off to thoughts about him. The fantasies had filled his mind. They infected it.
That's when The Narrator started to feel a deep pain in his throat. He started coughing heavily into his mic. After that,a small rose petal fell out of his mouth, landing on his desk.
The strange petal had blood all over it, his blood. He picked it up and looked at it closely. "Oh my.. I have to look into this later" The man thought to himself. Though Stanley didn't notice that he was gone and kept playing along with the game.
He had gotten to the room with the phone and waited for a response. Another tiny cough came from The Narrator before he cleared his throat and continued on with what he was saying.
Soon after, Stanley completed the ending like he always does and traveled back to his desk
"Would you please wait for me a minute, Stanley? You've been doing so many resets today. It's a new record! You must be exhausted! Let me go get some water. You can wait here and rest!" The Narrator spoke, seeming to be in a rush.
"But I-" Stanley tried protesting, but the other man had already left.
After about another hour of Stanley mindlessly fidgeting and daydreaming, the man still hadn't returned. He was starting to get restless, as he was not used to being left alone for this long, and tried getting onto other websites on his computer besides his normal screen with the blinking arrow.
He was able to get past it after a little bit of work and went onto Google. Before he was able to type a letter, he got rudely interrupted by the missing man.
His voice sounded rather breathy, like he had just gone on a run. "Hello, Stanley!" The older man paused to catch his breath. "I am ever so sorry for leaving you that long! My apologies." The narrator quickly got situated again and adjusted his microphone, tapping it three times and testing it out.
Stanley quickly shot up from his chair when he heard his voice. "Narrator! I thought you left me! Holy shit you're back!" He stared straight into the camera in his office with a relieved look.
"I would never just leave you like that. I promise, Stanley. I will never leave you. It'll be just me and you here for the rest of eternity with each other, alright?" The Narrator had composed himself from earlier and now had his usual tone. It was a bit more serious than normal though. Stanley didn't seem to notice because his friend was finally back.
The Narrator let out a soft sigh and started speaking yet again "Now how about we start up the parable again?"
