Apo Nattawin woke up to the sound of his alarm. Another day had started in the orphanage. He can hear the chatters of the orphanage residents, mostly the kids who were currently on their way to the dining hall, to start their day with healthy and hearty breakfast. Apo still remember, the first time he was here, he was afraid. This was a place he never been before and there was no his mama and papa. It took him few weeks before he started to open up and accept the facts that he was alone. Chan, the owner of the orphanage, was a very big help in helping him settle down in the orphanage.
Also, his roommate was another big help. Pete, he was the best roommate he could ever had. That guy was weird but adorable. Although Pete had decided to venture outside the orphanage after he finished his bachelor's degree, he still visited the orphanage and Apo from time to time.
Apo's second alarm blasted, and he grunted. Nearing his 30's, Apo still hated to wake up early in the morning. Luckily, he was one the staff and teachers of the orphanage so he still can wake up a little late from the kids.
Apo's daily schedule started with him being the instructor for morning fitness classes. Sometimes he wondered if Chan actually wanted to create a school for bodyguards recruit instead of normal orphanage.
"Good morning, everyone!" Apo chirped happily.
"Good morning, Mr. Nattawin!"
"Let's get ready for our stretching routines then you guys gotta run 2 laps. Understood?"
"Yes, Mr. Nattawin," the kids replied. But Apo can hear grunts and murmurs somewhere in the crowd. He too, used to curse Chan in his head, a lot. He was not a weak kid but to run every morning, he despised the idea a lot.
"Hey kids. You don't have to run full sprint. Just jogs around and it should be okay," he said, trying to placate the kids. Only the kids that were from 15–18-year-old needed to run 2 laps of the basketball court. The 14-year-old and below kids were assigned to other teachers for their morning fitness.
"I see that you are getting softer with the kids," someone said. Apo playfully hit the man on the shoulder.
"As if you are not, Big. You are the biggest softie and we both know that," retorted Apo.
Big was another figure in Apo's life. Their relationship started bad. Big was a big bully. Big was Chan's nephew. Nobody knows the reason Big ended up under Chan's care, but he apparently strived and currently working as a private bodyguard. See, Chan managed to train Big to become a bodyguard. Seriously, this orphanage should be called "Private Bodyguard School" instead of Sunshine Orphanage.
"You are on your leave today?" Apo asked.
"Hmm. I still have my annual leave," replied Big. Apo nodded. "Hey Po, you really don't want to work as bodyguard?" asked Big.
"Oh, come on, Big. You know I am not qualified," said Apo.
"Trust me, you alone are a lot better than our 10 newest recruits. I'm getting headache handling those kids," sighed Big.
Working with his boss for almost 5 years, Big now was one of the head bodyguards of his employer who was a businessman. Big's boss was filthy rich though.
"Can't compare with me handling those kids, though," said Apo, shrugging.
"Are you fighting with Ken?" Apo suddenly asked. Big literally choked on his own saliva.
"Why are you asking?"
"Because you are always here whenever you have a fight with your bodyguard lover," grinned Apo. Big grunted. Apo sometimes just too good at observing people.
"Fine. We fight. And now he's on duty with boss,"
"And you missed him so bad. See, you are a softie," teased Apo. Big only rolled his eyes.
"Mr. Nattawin! We are done with the laps," one of the students said. Apo nodded.
"Good job guys. Now you can freshen up and get ready for the next class. I dismiss all of you for today," said Apo in response to the student statement.
The students cheered albeit slowly. Apo smiled looking at the innocent souls. Too bad that they had to settle down in an orphanage instead of having a blast growing up with real family.
Some of the students were from very poor family. The parents were just too poor that they ended up sending their kids to this orphanage. Chan, being another big softie, accepted them without a second thought. Therefore, this orphanage now a home to parents-less kids and unfortunate kids.
"Won't Uncle Chan be mad since you dismissed the class early?" Big asked. He knew his uncle was a big softie but at the same time strict as a military officer.
"He won't if I bring his nephew into his office. Currently he is so busy with planning an event for the orphanage. Something like fund raising event," shrugged Apo.
"Fund raising event? Does the orphanage run out of fund?" Big asked, clearly concerned with the economy of the orphanage.
"Nahh, Chan just wants to have some big fat money to fund this orphanage as a part of their so-called corporate social responsibilities," giggled Apo.
Truthfully, the orphanage was never low on funds. Chan was involved in stock trading, and he was great in that. The alumni of the orphanage also contributed monthly. Plus, they also had continuous funds from one of the country business's tycoons. Uncle Chan said, they are his friend.
"Uncle Chan is always like that. As if he does not have enough money. His fortunes are more than enough to fund this orphanage for the next 100 years,"
Apo laughed at Big's remarks. Big and Chan dynamics was unique. They were always on each other neck, but they love each other so much that they could kill for each other.
"Let's terrorize Chan in his office. My next class will start in 3 hours so are you in?" asked Apo in his cheeky way. Big laughed.
"Let's bring trouble to him. Plus, I can forget about Ken for a while," said Big. Apo laughed at his friend slash cousin. Chan officially and unofficially adopted Apo as his son. Big was throwing big tantrums when he knew but they somehow reconciled and became brothers all in all but blood.
