"It's not bad," she mumbled as she shoves another bite into her mouth. Her cheeks puff out like a chipmunk and she takes another big bite.
"Don't choke on it," I told her as I placed my hand on her chin to slow down her chewing. She nibbled for a second more before swallowing.
She slapped her hand on her mouth and jumped up from the seat. She stood there frozen before leaning half her body over the counter to reach for a glass of water.
With her palm out on the table, she gulped down the water.
"...Hot," she strained with watery eyes.
I slumped down on the chair next to her.
"I told you beforehand it might be a little spicy for you."
"You're definition of spicy is much different than mine! Asian spice is on another level," she cried.
I pat her shoulder and drizzled some condinments on her dish to mediate the spice.
She coughed as she mixed it in and cautiously took another bite.
I kept my eyes on her. I watched her small movements and facial expressions as she leaned back in her chair in satisfaction.
Truth be told, I was still upset about her disappearance in some unknown place with some unknown man for so long. I wished she told me more, but she knew I would've come to find her and take her back. Whatever reason and whatever she learned, I had to trust she thought about it carefully. She speaks her mind around me, but I know she holds a lot back. But so do I. We're grown adults, it's to be expected. It's not like I should expect more even if we were dating.
Still.
I couldn't shake away the jealous rock in my chest that grew heavier the more I thought about it.
I failed her those couple months ago. But she's given me another chance.
But where exactly do we stand now? We laugh and we touch, but what does she feel?
Without realizing, I brushed back a strand of her hair off her forehead that covered her eye. Her eyes moved to mine, but she didn't sway away.
She chuckled awkwardly and sat up straight, adjusting the chop sticks in the bowl.
Just tell me y/n.
You never reject me or encourage me.
I took her empty bowl and mine and sat it down in the sink. I could feel her eyes on me from behind.
I spoke quietly, "You don't know how much I'd give you if you let me."
I slowly turned around and faced her, but her eyes were on the table now.
It could have been the spice, but her face seemed a little red.
Biting down my smile, I slid my hands into my pockets and leveled down my face to hers.
She seemed surprised by my sudden movement, and I took advantage.
I tiled her chin up roughly and examined her face, especially her lips.
The room stilled, and the quietest sounds became too loud to suppress.
She let out a soft gasp and stepped off the chair.
"Wait," she demanded.
I felt my stomach drop until her warm fingertips touched my cheekbones. Sliding her thumbs under my blindfold, she slowly glided my blindfold off and tossed it on the counter without changing her gaze.
She prudently drifted her fingers over my face, as if scared to damage me.
I clutched her hands and froze my eyes onto hers.
It's alright, I wanted to say.
If you don't want to tell me, show me.
