Well, the good news is, she’s not fired, or anything. She’s sure creeping, as Wednesday had correctly stated, on the daughter of your client, including barging into her room uninvited, followed by peeping and drawing private, stealthy (but not really) pictures of her in their family backyard, is fully grounds for instant dismissal.
And that’s not even factoring in the tricky additional complication of the whole secondary sexes thing. From the outside, this looks like a classic situation of an omega being clingy and she despises perpetuating preconceptions like these.
Is Enid clingy? Oh yes, but is it because she’s an omega? Heck, no. She would like to believe, anyway.
The bad news is, well, everything else.
She’s in this seriously awkward situation of being caught red-handed and having to look Morticia and Gomez in the eye as if she’s been behaving like the professional she is supposed to be.
She’s also on edge, not knowing if Wednesday is biding her time before exposing her. Or trying to collect more evidence, which Enid is sure is unpreventable at this point, just with who Enid was, as a person.
Speaking of evidence, she remembers to tuck the pages deep in her work bag, not quite finding it in herself to destroy them, wanting to keep them as memories for after she leaves when she no longer has the real thing in front of her, as limited as that front of her time is.
She forgets about it until she’s back at home, chilling in bed with her phone, filling the time until she passes out some time past midnight.
At least she has a routine, she reflects.
Her third brother, Oscar, knocks on her door to ask for her set of keys and how he will return them when he’s back tomorrow, early morning.
“Bold of you to assume I don’t have any plans later,” she says as he blatantly looks her up and down in her pajamas.
In her defense, she had thought the pink bunnies and the short shorts were fabulously cute at the time, though it was four years ago.
Without waiting for a response from him, because she played herself, really, she digs through her bag to retrieve the keys but immediately snaps it shut again once her sketches of Wednesday surface up and look to be in danger of falling out.
Oscar’s narcissism and egomania is usually annoyingly reliable and consistent. But in true older brother fashion, not this time, when it's advantageous to her, apparently, as she hears his playful tone.
“Ooooooh, what you hiding? You got something naughty in there?”
She’s about to respond with, “LOL I wish,” before stopping herself in time.
Taking a step back, she comprehends it’s a totally inappropriate comment to make of someone she:
Had never held a proper conversation with, not counting the mostly one-way interaction they had last night
Sort of, she doesn’t know why she bothers lying to herself, had a crush on six years ago, and
Had zero contact with for the past three years, though not for Enid’s lack of trying because how can someone live without social media?
Yup, creep is about right.Eugene and his team call her in that morning with the announcement that the work in the foyer has been completed from their end.
Pride wells up in Enid’s chest as she admires the space that looks infinitely better than the 2D sketches and 3D models she had prepared. As detached as Enid tries to be from Eugene, she has to admit, his work is remarkable.
