Ch. 2
The first thing I seemed to get back was touch. I could feel the chains wrapped around me, laying on my side. They must have put me in the wagon, I thought to myself as I bounced a couple times. Then I got my hearing back, I could hear the groaning of injured men and the wheels and hoof beats on the cobblestones. Wait, cobblestones, we're in town! Oh god!
I was panicking now, my vision returned and I saw the men's panicked gazes. Though, it wasn't towards me, it was the leader. He was having a mental breakdown of epic proportions, screaming about it being his fault. I, on the other hand, was looking for an escape route. The wall would be easy to get over, but getting past everyone would pose a problem. How would one go about climbing a 50m tall wall, and not be seen in the process?
As I searched, my eye was caught by a particular sight. A man was raising his hand against a kid, my anger stirred. You should never treat a child that way, and that comes from a child, myself. The kid just stood there glaring at him, hmm he's got guts, I thought to myself.
Suddenly, a small hand reached out and pulled him into an alleyway. When they disappeared, I became aware of the murmurs around me.
"Who's the kid?"
"Heard they picked her up outside the wall."
"Impossible! No one could survive out there."
"Yeah, and even if she did, how'd she get out there in the first place?"
exc.
Yeah, I forgot, now I'm just going to be there circus attraction until they find some use for me. We rounded the bend and the murmurs slowly disappeared, and a second wall loomed overhead. Okay, time to escape, I decided.
I built up my energy, putting a small amount of pressure against the chains and gradually increasing it. I went still, waiting for the metal to break, for the give. My patience gave way to victory as the chain links scattered and I leaped from the carriage. I sprinted away from the shouting men, running toward the outer wall.I looked behind me for a split second, and in that split second I slammed into someone. This sent us both flying, he landed in a crouch position in front of me and I landed flat on my back. It was the same kid as before, the one pulled into the alleyway, only now I noticed his startling blue eyes. He's, the same as me? I thought in my head before I shook my head, no! His scent is different and the age is wrong.
"Hey!" He shouted at me, "You're the girl who was bound in chains. The one with the scouts earlier today!"
I nodded and started walking, he followed, continuing to ask me questions, "Is it true you were living on the other side of the wall? What was it like? How did you survive?"He jumped in front of me, "is there anything out there except trees?"
I smiled, he's inquisitive, that's good. I took out my notebook, "all will be revealed in good time."
He gave me a look, like 'that doesn't answer me at all' look. "Why were you running?" I asked him.
"My mom said something I didn't like, and I got into a fight with her," he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, "she wants keep me from my dream and I won't stand for it!"
"She's just worried, she wants to keep you safe and protected," I smiled sadly, and rubbed my chest where my heart is.
"So you're taking her side?!" He spat out.
"No, I see your point too, you won't be this young forever. She will understand that eventually," I replied.
"What about your mother? Father? How do they feel about you living over the wall?" he asked. My chest hurt again, "I don't have parents."
