It's been exactly one year since that day that changed everything. Despite the tragedy of Halloween, you were determined to not let it hinder your life. So Halloween house party it is, a brand new tradition.

You had already since settled into your place with Ethan, adjusting to living together. Which worked out for you—Ethan's space was bigger, and you were ready to take that step. He, of course, had always been okay with the idea; it allowed him to always ensure your safety and see where you were.

Overall, your lives together meshed well. He was usually up before you, making breakfast for you both. You'd wrap your arms around him from behind and share sweet coffee kisses before departing to school or work for the day.

He loved to pack you lunches when you were busy, or he'd just show up to take you to the diner that had grown to be your place, where you'd sip sugary milkshakes and share fries. You savoured those cold strawberry kisses before the busy afternoon swept you away.

When you got home from your day, you dropped all of your bags to meet in the loving embrace you'd ached for all day. You would laugh and chat about whatever had popped into your mind over dinner, enjoying the bliss of normality. The night brought sleepy kisses, getting lost in the tangle of his curls and fresh, soft bed sheets. His lips had healed every scar on your body down to a faint line.

He was wrapped around your finger, and there's nowhere he'd rather be than there with you. There's no one else he'd rather be living for.

Today, though, was a little different from your normal routine, as it was Halloween after all. You picked out your costumes together, and you found yourself dressed as Morticia Addams, and he was Gomez. His own Ethan version of him anyway. He had a black and grey striped suit, a bowtie, and an adorable fake moustache that hardly stuck. He looked so inherently him, with adorable curls that bounced while he moved.

You watched him from afar, smiling and laughing while he talked to Chad. His white grin made your heart leap from your chest. As if he knew you were watching, he turned to look at you, his brown eyes glowing with adoration as he smiled and wove to you.

"You two are so cute it makes me want to vomit," Mindy groaned, holding her red plastic cup to her lips.

You laughed, shaking your head, "I don't know about that."

"I do. He looks at you like you're his goddess sent from the heavens." Mindy gestures wildly with her hands in the air, making you laugh.

Tara hugged you from behind, startling you slightly. "Oh, hey," you smile, rolling your eyes at Mindy. Tara tended to get a loving type of drunk whenever she had alcohol.

"I love you guys," she murmured before moving on. "Nice party!"

Mindy was dressed as a female version of Freddie from Nightmare on Elm , with a red ripped striped sweater and brown hat to top it off. She rolled her eyes at Tara as she wrapped her arms around her.

You noticed Ethan's hands were empty, so you used that as an excuse to grab some of the spiked punch for him. As you walk across the apartment to the living room, he laughs at something Chad had said before his eyes met yours. His laugh turned into a gleaming smile as his fingers waved, beckoning you to come to his side.

You hold the cup up, and he takes it gratefully with one hand; the other slips around your waist while he kisses the top of your head. He always held you by his side proudly, especially when introducing you to someone. You knew if you let him, he'd introduce you to everyone as the girl who saved his life, yet you felt it was definitely the other way around.

"Hey Chad," you smiled, leaning your side into Ethan's loving embrace.

His fingers gingerly run circles around your waist. It was making it hard to pay attention to the conversation as tingles rose within you, even through the black fabric of your fitted dress.
