JADE WELLS DID anything to make her mother proud. If that meant staying out of trouble, or studying until her hands got numb.

She did it.

Losing her father was like losing a part of her. She lost all touch with reality when he passed away. He was the glue to Jades relationship with her mother, and ever since he passed their world has been crumbling down.

Jade would do anything to see her father again, no matter the cause. He always put in the effort to understand her, he only wanted what was best for her.

She knew that.

She knew her father loved her, she also knew her parents were all she ever had.

She couldn't lose them. At least not again.

Her phone dinged in the back of her jean pocket, the vibration alerting her a new text had come through.

She was currently in the library reading for her spare period. She didn't have much else to do, all her friends were in class right now.

She turned on her phone opening the text.

Remember your history test is next week.
I'll go over your study notes when i get home. -Mom

The girl sighs in irritation. She had already studied for this test yet her mother won't stop bugging her about it.

It has been like this for months, every since her father died her mother had been pushing her to be the best version of herself jade could possibly be.

It was tiring.

Jade decided not to reply to the text, instead turning her phone off and looking for someone she knows isn't in class right now.

Jade walked and walked until she reached the hidden staircase behind the auditorium. She didn't have to look to know he was there, she could smell it before she even turned the corner.

"Well don't you look like shit." The girl laughs sarcastically before sitting beside the boy. A Joint wedged between his fingers.

She extends her hand for the boy to let her take a hit of the joint. Lin raises his eyebrows at the girl almost as if he's surprised she's asking.

She doesn't have an addiction to smoking at all. She honestly doesn't like it. But every time her stupid cellphone rings it's like a constant reminder of how miserable her life is.

She used to smoke for fun, at parties and beaches. She used to dance and go to foot ball games, even dress up for the dances the school used to host.

But now it's different.

Smoking is a temporary escape.

"It will always shock me that you're the smoking type." Lin says with a laugh handing the girl the joint. She looks at it for a second before ultimately bringing it to her lips and inhaling once.

Adrenaline stings at her throat, the smoke exiting her mouth in a cloud.

Jade hated smoking, but it was the only thing that helped in her eyes at least.

"Are you skipping?" She asked the boy, handing him back the paper filled killing machine.

"Do you really have to ask that?."

It was quite frequent for the boy to skip. Honestly Jade thought the boy never really did anything in school, it was more of a place for him to smoke and get food.

"You're never in class. I didn't even know you went to this school until i smelt you from a mile away." The boy rolls his eyes, before inhaling another breath of cloudy air.
