Y/n's POV
"How are ya, kid?" She nudges my shoulder.
"Hey, I wear the mask for a reason. Keep it low."
"My bad. Hey, I heard you're lookin' for a little side mission." I nod and let her continue. "Well, it's not exactly "slaying a monster" but it would be fun. Just me and you, like in the old days."
"Yeah, yeah. That sounds fun." I tremble.
"Hop on, kid." She helps me onto her cart. "You'll need a change of clothes. To the Owl House!" Her sister snaps the reins.
"So what exactly are we doing on this "mission"?"
"I'll explain it on the way." Wow, my first mission in a long time with Eda the Owl Lady....
"That will fit. Hopefully." Eda passes me a red outfit. "And this." She tosses a pirate hat onto my head, frisbee style. Eda was like a mother figure to me before the human got here. They are definitely closer than I and Eda ever were but we had a similar relationship. I had been replaced as soon as the human arrived. It all started with a mask and a story. Ever since, I visited Eda's shop every week to buy and for a tale about the human realm. One day Eda just stopped opening her stand.
"So, we're pirates?" I stumble over to a corner to change.
"Gotta keep the style up, kid. Can you go look in the shed for a bathtub?"
"Uhm, what?"
"I might have moved to behind the house. If not, it's still in the shed. I need to talk with Lily, quickly." I nod and head out front. I wave as I pass Lily, King, and Hooty on my way down. They were probably surprised to see me, especially Lilith.
"Bathtub, bathtub, bathtub... Aha, here!" I reach for the bathtub with odd, added mechanical features. I pull it down with a bang and drag it out to the yard.
"Perfect! Let's get goin'!" She hops inside the tub without hesitation.
"I missed you."...
I watch as the beast is blocked off with ice magic and then lassoed with vines. My view of the action is blocked as we make our way to the opposite side of the ship.
"You set off a firey explosion with lots of smoke, considering you have the magic here," Eda instructs.
"Got it!"
"I jump up and grab the money. As soon as I get back down you sail away to the island." She points to a small island surrounded by pointed rocks. "Ready..." A short pause, "GO!" I shoot a fire spell onto the top of the ship. I hear the sea creature escape as Eda boards the ship. I get ready to step on it. It isn't long before Eda hops back down with a sack of snails. "Go, go, GO!" I sail as fast as I can toward the land.
"Eda, someone's after us!"
"Keep pedaling!" We reach the shore and quickly celebrate. "Sweet. All real snails." She peaks in the bag. We take a quick rest from our mission.
"Eda!" I point behind her but I'm too late. Someone crashes right into Eda and the sack is thrown into the tide. The current swallows the bag into the boiling sea.
"The money!" Eda, the girl, and I all exclaimed. We exchange glances.
"Eda?"
"Human?"
"Who are you? Eda, who is this?" The girl flicks off Eda's hat.
"This is Y/-"
"Indiglow!" I shout over Eda. "Ha, undercover, remember?"
"Oh yeah, Indigo"
"No, Indiglow. Like indigo and glow together." I clear up. Yeah, I got an undercover name. Pretty cool.
"Okay, that doesn't matter. Why are you robbing our ship?" The human panics. "And what happened to your legs?" She stares down at the top half of Eda's limbs. I waddle over and grab her lower half parts.
"It's called disguising your tracks. Now, why were you on that ship to begin with? You could've gotten killed!" They argue as I stand in silence, awkwardly. My silence is soon broken as the ground starts to rumble. A giant water fist erupts from the sea and onto the dark sand. It burst into nothingness to reveal an armored man.
"That can still be arranged." He peers up at all of us. "Hello, criminals. What's about to happen should be relatively painless, if you just do what I say."
"Then bring the pain, Goldie." I mock his full gold outfit. He shrugs and raises his staff at me.
"Then how about I leave you dangling above the boiling sea?" The sand swerves around me and drops me on a small ledge above the waves. "Around these parts, just the steam is enough to cause third-degree burns."
"Haha, okay." I whimper to myself.
"The human will remain a sailor to repay all the money she lost, the Owl Lady will be arrested again, and this one will get exactly what they asked for." A bit of sand from my platform falls into the water, steaming even more.
"It's alright, kid," Eda reassures me.
"Nope, it's all good over here." I gulp.
"No one will have to be a sailor or arrested if one of you follows those Selkidomus tracks and slays the beast."
"What about them?" Eda points over at me.
"I'll think about it. Just go slay the thing already. Here, I'll help." The gold guy spawns a weak, little blade. The human whines over the sword. "You're making this difficult. Go or I'll drown that" He points his staff at me.
"Hey, I'm not a "that"!" I try to crawl onto the land to beat this guy's ass but I'm pushed farther out to sea. "Ahm." I can't hear everything but Eda and the human both stumble into the cave.
"Now," I get pulled back, closer to the island but still hanging over the steamy waters. "What to do with you?"
I'm considering this the first real chapter. I had to fight myself to polish the chapter and publish it but I did it. (With the help of a Monster Energy) And OMGGGG I JUST WATCHED "Watching and Dreaming" I'M CRYINGGGG. No spoilers tho. Have a good night or day if you can. Love you all so so much.
