Y/n's POV

"Mum, I told you, I don't want anything to do with you right now." I try to close the door.
"I know, honey. But we need to talk about your dad."
"Why? So we can just get into another fight?"
"Okay, let's go shopping or out for ice scream first. I want one normal day with my child. Is that too much to ask?"
     "Things aren't normal though."
"Fine, I don't know why I bother coming here anymore. You're so stubborn." She turns and walks away. She gets a few feet away when.
"Wait! Ice scream does sound nice..." I grab my bag off the table and run to catch up.
"I knew you would change your mind." She smirks as we walk toward town. Her arm creeps around my shoulder. "I missed you."

...

We get to an ice scream stand and my mum walks to order for us.
     "What would you like, honey?"
"F/F please." She nods and heads to the counter. I take a seat at a poorly cleaned booth. She guilt-tripped me... again. She always does. It's like she has the power to make me do whatever she pleases. Or maybe it's just me.
"Here you are, honey." She sets down my ice scream and has a seat across from me. "So how are you?"
"Well, I've been better than usual." I shrug.
"That's nice. I had a look at your place and... I'm sure it's seen better days."
     "Mum..."
"I'm just saying that my house is willing to take you in."
"I'm not going over this again."
"Alright, alright. You just need time..." She doesn't quit and it makes my blood boil. "Can we at least go shopping for some decor?"
     "I do need some books..."
"Oh, that's no fun. Just go to a library." I notice her ice scream is almost gone and mine is starting to melt. "Eat up. I didn't spend 4 snails for nothing."
    "That's a good idea. I know a perfect library."
"Well, let's go." She is about to get up.
"You can't come. I mean- I'll go another time."
"Why? Are you up to some sort of scheme?" She snarls. "Like always." She whispers under her breath. I growl at her stereotypical comment.
"This was a mistake. I have to go." I rush to get up.
"Okay, but I will be back to talk." I ignore her and walk away. I feel like I need to be perfect for her to care for me. But I'm not perfect and I never will be, no one will. I just need to stop trying.
Why would I go to just any normal library? Where I'm going is straight to the library in the castle. They might even have secret books like no other library has seen. First, I'll need a disguise.

...

I get to the castle and hide behind some trees on a small cliff. A side cliff left with one foolish guard. I grab them from their collar and drag them up to me.
"Ahh, I'll do it!" They scream with their arms up.
"Huh?"
"I'll do whatever you want!"
"Oh, okay. Your outfit." I point to their helmet. They nod and give me the main parts of their uniform, leaving them in a tank top and shorts. "Thanks!" I slip on the clothes and head towards the castle.
I hop to an open window and easily side in. I strut around the halls looking for a book-filled room, not trying to bring any attention my way. Eventually, I spot my target. A huge, open, library. I waltz in like it's nothing and skim for anything that catches my eye. Finally, I come upon a book titled 'From Bones to Earth-A Study of Wild Magic' It seems perfect for learning new magic. I reach for it but someone else has the same idea. I look over to see The Golden Guard himself. I mentally prepare to attack but remember I'm in a disguise. He sees me as a regular old guard.
"Oh, I didn't want it. Just wondering why a book about Wild Magic is in the Emperor's library." He shakes his head. "That's all," He whispers under his breath.
"You sure?" I try to hand him the book but he pushes it back toward me.
"Yeah, you take it just," he pauses. "Be careful. Wild Magic is dangerous." He shoos me off then crosses his arms, walking away.
Then it hits me. I normally spy from a distance. I can keep up this disguise-type spying and fit right into the action.
"Wait, erm... Sir, I have a few questions for you!"
Well, a lot happened but I don't have much to say. No comment but have a nice day or night. Love every single one of you.
