billie already knew it wasn't the best idea to attend her classes in the tired state she was in, especially on an empty stomach. but if she didn't pass these upcoming tests, she might just lose it.and she wanted to get notes for lyra so she didn't fall behind either.
but her tiredness was triggering her tics which were slowly becoming more and more aggressive as the morning progressed and the lack of food was making her more and more dizzy.
nevertheless she continued to write down notes as if her vision wasn't becoming splotchy and her neck didn't feel like it was going to break if she ticked one more time.
and somehow, who knows how, she managed to make it through her morning lessons, now she just had to make it through the dreaded lunch queue.
one thing that kept her body from giving in and passing out was the fact she was sat down but now she was going to have to stand for at least fifteen minutes in the queue.
normally she would've just skipped lunch and gotten a snack from her room but she knew lyra needed to eat too, so she attempted to wait it out.
by the time she got to the front of the queue, her vision was almost non existent and her whole body was shaking violently.
"what would you like for lunch dear?" the dinner lady asked as billie tried to make out what was in front of her.
"uhh.. a sandwich", billie mumbled shakily, praying this would get done soon before her legs gave out.
"yes i know that dear", the dinner lady spoke as she rose an eyebrow at billie as sandwiches were all that were there, "which one?"
billie gulped as she tried to make out the different fillings of the sandwiches in front of her, "chicken?"
surely one of these sandwiches had chicken in them?
"which chicken one would you like?" the dinner lady spoke impatiently as billie began to lose it.
"any chicken one, just put two on my plate please" billie almost begged as the dinner lady gave her a concerned look.
"are you okay dear? you're looking a little grey?" she spoke softly.
you don't say? the black haired girl was one wrong move away from plummeting to the floor.
"yes i'm fine" billie's hands shook as she tried to keep her tray the right way up.
"okay.." the dinner lady sounded unconvinced, "what about sides, fruit or crisps?"
"two bags of crisps", billie rushed out, her heart was pounding against her chest.
"what flavo-"
"any flavour, just two bags of crisps", billie spoke desperately before grabbing them herself rushing over to the till to pay.
but just as she thought she was safe, someone just had to ruin it.
"teachers first miss o'connell", miss miller stated matter of factly as she stood in front of the smaller girl.
"oh for fucks sake" billie muttered under her breath earning a small gasp from her teacher.
"miss o'connell!" miss miller snapped, "we do not use that sort of language here, ive let you off one too many times—"
billie walked off, she didn't care about paying anymore, this was her wrong move and she knew it would be a miracle if she made it up those stairs back to her dorm but she was willing to try.
"billie are you okay?" she heard the soft voice of the nurse who just so happened to be walking down the stairs whilst she tried to walk up.
"yeah, all good thanks" billie mumbled as she carried on 'powering' up the stairs.
it turns out miracles do happen as a very out of breath billie made it to the top of the stairs, her tray still upright with the food on it.
she reached the door and scrambled through her pockets to find her key.
"not now", she whined quietly to herself as she struggled to find her key, "stupid shitty thing, why is it so small, i mean who designs these things, definitely someone in bottom set"
billie carried on muttering to herself, out of frustration and to keep herself conscious before the door similarly to last night swung open.
but this time lyra wasn't crying but instead had a tired, confused yet amused look on her face.
"were you talking to yourself?" lyra asked, "out loud.."
billie let out a nervous laugh, "no", she spoke quickly, praying lyra would move out the way so she could get in and sit down.
lyra scanned the girl before dragging her inside, and plopping her down on her bed.
"drink this", lyra mumbled putting the tray down before passing billie a gatorade.
"how did you know?" billie asked opening the bottle.
"you were shaking like a leaf and you looked like a walking corpse, grey as fuck" lyra spoke blatantly, "you need to eat regularly, this isn't healthy at all"
billie didn't have the energy to argue back so nodded and sipped on the gatorade as she slowly regained her vision.
"did you sleep?" billie asked once she began to feel better.
"yeah, until i heard you having a conversation with yourself outside" lyra let out a small laugh.
"well they shouldn't make these keys so tiny", billie grumbled, snatching a bag of crisps from her tray, "anyway, you feel any better?"
"yeah, sorry about earlier.." lyra mumbled her cheeks going red with embarrassment.
she couldn't believe she sobbed on billie's shoulder like that.
"you need to stop saying sorry for things that aren't your fault" billie replied shoving some crisps into her mouth.
lyra nodded timidly, playing with the strings of her hoodie before grabbing her bag of crisps, "gross.. why did you choose ketchup flavoured crisps"
"i couldn't see! i just grabbed two random bags, i was so close to blacking out, i didn't care anymore" billie exclaimed.
"you didn't have to bring me food if you felt that bad, i could've went down and got it myself", lyra replied chuckling, "but thank you, i appreciate it"
"as you should" billie muttered quietly, "also i've got all the notes from class in my bag, just ask me for them when you want to write them up"
"thanks billie", lyra spoke genuinely, "i still don't get why your doing this.."
"what, giving you my notes?" billie asked.
"not just that, being nice to me after last night, i mean what i asked was so rude and insensitive an—"
"lyra just shut up, im only going to say this once more, you did nothing wrong, please stop making yourself out to be a horrible person because you've been nothing but nice to me, and i hate you talking bad about yourself" billie's voice was stern yet soft at the same time as she maintained eye contact with the blonde.
all lyra could do was nod in response as her heart warmed at billie's words.
"are you okay to go to afternoon lessons?" billie asked, changing the topic
"yeah i'll be fine, what about you? you still haven't slept.." lyra pointed out, despite the colour returning to billie's face, the clear signs of exhaustion were still there.
"i'll be okay", billie responded similarly to earlier with a small smile that didn't quite convince lyra but she wouldn't push it for now.
