when lyra returned to their room, she found billie hunched over at her desk, studying silently with her headphones on, as she walked closer, billie practically jumped out of her skin.

pulling her headphones down, she let out a relieved sigh when she saw it was just lyra, "jesus christ... you scared me".

"sorry", lyra murmured as she flopped back onto her bed, resting her eyes shut.

billie slowly spun on her chair to face the blonde, the room was silent for a couple minutes before billie eventually spoke.

"are we good?" she spoke quietly.

lyra sat up a bit, furrowing her brows, "yeah? why wouldn't we be?"

billie shrugged slightly, her brow twitching a little as she played with her rings, "things just feel a little off".

"nothings off... we're all good, i promise", lyra gave her a small but forced smile as she fell back down on her back.

she heard billie mumble a "right", before the squeak of the chair turning back round and the clink of her headphones being placed back on her head.

the two of them were good.

lyra knew she'd feel better and less irritated once she'd slept a little. besides she wasn't necessarily annoyed at billie, more just the fact she was being kept away from all of this.

she just needed to sleep on it.

letting out a breath, she began to get ready for bed, brushing her teeth, getting changed, all the usual whilst billie still sat studying away at her desk.

if she didn't walk away with top grades then no one could, at least that's what lyra thought.

tucking into bed had to be the best part of this very confusing day, her headache subsiding slightly as she rested against her pillows, her body swallowed by a large duvet and multiple blankets.

she closed her eyes and it didn't take her long before she began to doze off.

lyra woke up at some point in the night for no particular reason, sighing as she glanced at the clock on her bedside table which read '5.27 am'.

it was far too early for her to get up but also too close to when her alarm would go off for her to go back to sleep comfortably.

she tossed over to the other side of the bed and her eyes widened as she saw billie still sat at her desk, seemingly in the exact same position as she was at 10 pm.

i mean lyra knew she was an academic weapon but this was another level.

with a yawn, she slipped out of bed, shivering at the change in temperature as she sleepily trudged over to billie's side.

"hey", she mumbled, completely forgetting about the headphones that were firmly placed on billie's head, covering her ears, so she got no response.

gently, she reached out a hand, trying not to startle her too much as she placed it on her shoulder.

the black haired girl tensed for a second before turning to look at lyra, pulling down her headphones once again.

she looked exhausted.

"have you been up this whole time?" lyra asked, her worried expression almost making billie feel guilty.
