"There's no end to them!" I say, through laboured breathing. We can't keep this up forever. "Do you see a way out?"

"No!" He yells.

I duck as he shoots a fire ball behind me. I can hear a snake explode.

"Wait, over there!"

I follow his eyes to the mural on the far wall. "What about it?" I stab a snake.

"Doesn't it kind of look like a door?"

"That massive thing?" The mural almost reaches the ceiling four stories up. I look closer and do in fact, see what appears to be a vertical split down its centre. "How would we even open that?"

"I haven't gotten that far yet! But right now that's the only thing we have!"

"Alright, I'll clear away. Cover me!"

"How about you cover me?!" He says as a snake rushes at him from his side. I pull him out of the way by his shirt and pierce the snake's eye, killing it.

"Yeah... sure."

Miraculously, we are able to make it to the door unscathed. Our skin at least, mentally and physically I am exhausted, Ezreal looks to be in the same boat. I whimper internally when I look at the massive door. We only have a few seconds before the snakes will reach us again. We both push against it as hard as we can. I even try casting a few unsealing and opening spells. All to no avail. It won't budge. I begin to think that the mural really was just part of a wall after all. Ezreal raises the cannon and shoots at the mural. When the sparks clear there isn't even a crack.

"Maybe it's a pull door?" He says.

"Damn harrowing!" I pick up the sword. The snakes have caught up to us. I start defending the two of us as he continues to break through the wall. I wipe sweat from my brow. "Any luck, Ezreal?!"

"No! Wait, there!"

I turn, hoping to see maybe a hole in the wall or something. But instead I see him pointing away from us to the corner of the room. Oh, not again... I follow his hand. Past two snakes, there is an arched door-sized opening hidden behind a column.

"Great! Run!"

We make a break for it. Killing the two snakes as we run. On the other side of the opening, we see a set of stairs leading down as we approach. We pass through the archway and Ezreal turns around.

"Alright, a big one this time!" He charges up the cannon a bit longer before firing it at the base of the column. The impact causes the column to crumble, large pieces of stone crash down in front of the doorway. We retreat a bit further down the stairs to get away from the dust. When the dust settles, the entry to the stairwell is completely blocked. I can't hear anything from beyond the rubble. The stairwell is dark besides the faint hot glow of our weapons.

I lean back and slide down the cool stone wall onto the floor. I sigh. My breathing is heavy, I lay the sword down on a step. Ezreal sits down across from me. His face is illuminated by his blue arcane marks and the soft red glow of the fire cannon.

"Thanks back there."

I realize he's speaking to the weapon. I smile. What an interesting guy.

The light of the fire weapons dies and the room goes dark.

"Damn, too bad. You were a good cannon." I hear him place the bronze cannon on the stone step.

We sit in the black stairwell, catching our breaths. I can only see the faint blue glow of Ezreal's cheeks. I come down from the adrenaline high. I notice a sharp pain on the back of my leg and begin to feel nauseous. Ah, shit. I quickly gulp down a vial of antipoison and cover the wound with salve the best I can in the lack of light. The pain quickly subsides and my stomach settles.
