Chapter 13 - On the Run

Kara: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you...

Alice: So, it wasn't a nightmare...

Maddie: No... No, it wasn't a nightmare...

[ALICE slight_increase]

Kara: How about a nice, warm bath? And then we can go out and try to get you something to eat. What do you say? Okay. I'll run you a bath.

Alice: You two are pretty like that. You two really look like a human now.

Maddie: Your bath's ready.

[PUBLIC OPINION slight_decrease]

Channel 16 - Joss Douglas: Thanks, Michael. I'm joined by Corktown resident Todd Williams, who was violently attacked by his AX400 and CP100 around 11 PM last night. Todd, can you tell us what happened?

Todd: I was having dinner, I was minding my own business. Damn things jumped on me. Managed to defend myself, but they went crazy. I thought they were gonna kill me... So I fought them off, but they ran away.

Channel 16 - Joss Douglas: Thank you, Todd. Disturbing news for android owners everywhere. Police have launched a search to find the androids. Let's hope they find them fast.

Alice: It's not true... He's lying... He's the one who tried to hurt us...

Kara: I know these last few hours have been hell for you... I know you feel lost and scared... But all that is behind us now. We don't have to be afraid anymore... We're alive... and that's all that matters.

Alice: What are we gonna do? We have nowhere to go... And the police are looking for us now.

Maddie: That android yesterday... he gave us an address... He said we could get help there... Could be worth a try.

[ALICE slight_increase]

Kara: We can't change the past, Alice... But we can decide the future... We're gonna pull through, and soon all this will just be a bad memory.

[ALICE slight_increase]

Maddie: It's us against the world, Alice... Just the three of us... We have to learn to trust each other... we only have you, and you only have us... And we're going to do everything we can to make you happy again.

Kara: Finish getting ready. I'll go out and find some food for you, then we can get going.

Hank: Lieutenant Anderson and Officer Anderson, Detroit Police. We're looking for two female android, robbed a store down the road last night. You see anything?

Receptionist: Two androids? No... I don't take androids here.

Connor: Have you seen anyone that looks like these two?

Receptionist: Fuck... I knew there was something weird about them... they came in last night – they were dressed normal, you know... There was no way I could tell.

Pippa: Are they still here?

Receptionist: Yeah, probably. Room 28.

Hank: Thank you.

Pippa: Ben?.. Yeah, they're still at the motel. Send some uniforms and cordon off the area. I'm heading to their room now.

Hank: You wait in the car.

Connor: You two are going to need me, Lieutenant and Officer. I know more about androids than you two do.

Pippa: Listen, I'm tired of you talkin' back to us. You're a machine, so shut the fuck up and do what we say!

Connor: All I want is to accomplish my mission. I'm sorry if that upsets you two.

Hank: Wanna see the end of your mission? Stop busting my fucking balls...

Cop: Shit, that's them! STOP! POLICE!

Cop: Quick, call it in!

Cop: Holy fuck, that's them! HEY, STOP! POLICE!

Cop: Hey! wait a minute!

(Connor chases after Maddie, Kara, and Alice as they go down an alleyway. Kara and Alice climb over the fence while Maddie helps them get over. Connor sees them and runs up to them. Maddie starts climbing the gate but Connor catches her and detains her.)

Alice: Maddie!

Maddie: Go! Run!

(Alice doesn't want to leave her mother figure but leaves with Kara to the highway. Pippa being faster than her dad catches up with Connor to see Maddie struggling to get out of his grip. She runs up to him and grabs onto him)

Pippa: Let her go! You're scaring her!

Connor: I can't do that, Pippa. I must accomplish my mission.

Pippa: You could accomplish your mission better if you calmed down and think about this. What if this android follows us and helps us understand the deviants better?

(Connor looks at her, his LED flashing an amber color, showing that he's thinking about it)

Pippa: Maybe it'll even save her from being dismantled and experimented on. Please, Connor. With her help, you can accomplish your mission.

(Connor looks at Maddie)

Connor: Will you help us if we promise not to hurt you or your friends?

Maddie: Of course! Anything!

(Connor nods and lets Maddie go just as Hank arrived. Pippa turned to him)

Pippa: She's on our side. No need for more cops.

Hank: (Exasperated) Fucking A...

Kara and Alice on the train.

Kara: Are you okay?

Alice hugs Kara.
