Spring, Saturday 20th - Jodi's Request

It was another normal day in the Valley as I got up to water my crops. Honestly, it felt more tedious now that I've been doing this same routine every day. Hoe dirt, plant new crops, fertilise, water, harvest, rinse and repeat using the same set of tools that I was given on my first day.

Looking up to the pristine blue sky, a hand placed against the rim of my hat to shield my eyes from its blinding glare, I took in the clean country air and watched the clouds go by. If only I had my crop duster that I could make more profit by selling a whole variety of crops.

Then I went to check on my mailbox and received a letter and it was from Jodi and I nearly choked on what it read.

"Farmer Robbie
I have a request for you. I need fresh cauliflower for a recipe I want to make. Could you bring me one?
-Jodi"

Darn it, I have only sold off much of my produce yesterday but, if Pierre still has some left over then I could buy one of my cauliflowers to give on to Jodi. I don't think she'd mind if it's been a day later. So, I quickly headed over, waiting for Pierre to open the door and headed inside.

"Mornin' Robbie, what are you after today?" He chimed in his pitch.

"I'm here for one Cauliflower." I asked.

"They're there on the shelf, amongst the other vegetables." He pointed out.

As I ventured over, there was something odd about them. As I checked for the Cauliflower, there was a sign amongst them and, upon close inspection:

"Pierre's finest fresh produce, grown from his back-garden."

I swear that these were grown from my farm... has he been taking credit? I hope he hasn't been telling his customers because I'd might give him a good telling off. Taking one of "his" cauliflowers, I paid for the vegetable and headed over to Jodi's, where she was busily washing up dishes.

"Oh, morning Robbie. I never seen you much around... I guess I missed you in a few places, haha." She spoke as she stopped the tap to speak with me. "I got the cauliflower, you requested." I said and handed her the vegetable in question. She smiled in glee as she held it. "Oh, this is perfect! Have you really grown this?" She asked and I nodded.

"Oh... well, Pierre claimed that he did. I think he's trying to pull the wool over my eyes... but only a true farmer can grow something as grand as this. His back-garden can only bring out silly tomatoes and potatoes. I'll let the villagers know discreetly about the truth so you don't go calling him names. He'll still claim its his but we'll know where it truly comes from." She chuckled.

At least I won't have to worry about Pierre taking credit of my hard work but it still hurts inside. I've been here for 2 weeks and yesterday has been my biggest yield so far. I should be given some form of credit for it. I left the house for Lewis to approach me.

"Morning Robbie. How's your day been?" I sheepishly rubbed the back of my neck. "...Not bad... just that I discovered something in Pierre's." I answered. "Oh? Well, Pierre has been acting all smug yesterday, last time I visited. What's wrong?" The mayor responded. "It's just that when I went to buy a Cauliflower for Jodi, there was a sign claiming that all of it was home-grown by him... which made me feel a little hurt."

I can tell that he wasn't impressed with what I've said and his moustache flickered in irritance. "So, that's what the villagers have been muttering about. Now, I do see Joja doing all kinds of rogue trader business but Pierre taking credit of other people's hard work... that is not something I'd like to see from Pierre. I'll kindly ask him tomorrow about the sign. But we Pelican Townsfolk do know one thing: Is that we can tell the difference between a garden grown potato from a Parsnip lovingly cared to by a farmer. Gus is one of those who can really tell from his cooking.

Anyways, I got a bit of news from the Governor. It seems that Joja hadn't responded to the land deed for years. It seems they just forgot about it. Which is strange giving their business practices so he told me that you're more than welcome to have the land deed for nothing.

Like there's nothing of great value in that woodland, it's not even home to anything so I'd say go for it, Robbie. Make that farm a reality."

I felt like I was fished from my sadness to happiness. I could not be more joyful upon hearing the news.

"That's brilliant! That made my day so well. Thank the Governor for me will you? I better go ask Robin to help me clear up the forest if I ever want to get started." I went.

"Mmhmm, good luck with that Robbie."

I wasted no time heading up to the Mountains and went up to Robin.

"Hey Robbie, did you need anything built?" She asked. Shaking my head, I answered her proposal. "Nope... I am going to need your help though. Lewis has just approved my proposal to move to a new farm on the East side of town. It's a really big one too so I'll be clearing a lot of woodland. I hope you got some industrial sized tools to help me."

She was rather shocked at the proposal.

"A new farm? Jeez, that is a tall order. Hmm... I think I know a lumberjack who owns some heavy-duty machinery. I'll ask him to come help clear out some of the woodland; Much of it hasn't contributed much to the rest of the valley and it's pretty much dried up.

I'll get on it immediately but, if you're going to move then I'd sell all of your produce by the end of Summer while we work. That way you got money for new crops when the new season hits. Got it?"

"Got it!" I smiled and hopped on back to spendthe rest of my day and, in the next few days, Robin got on the phone with herfriend and they worked throughout the rest of the month clearing out all of theland, for my new farm. As for my old one... I guess I'll donate it to thecommunity as a garden. Evelyn, the local granny, would love to make it an idealparadise.
