DESTINY | Kylian Mbappè

Chapter 2

"Baby l'm home "l mutter before  locking the door behind me .

No one responds.l quickly put my work bag down as l make my way to our shared bedroom.

"I missed you cherie " Jarad out of nowhere comes and pick me up.Picks me up like how Kylian used to.Ugh.l'm thinking about him again,it's second time this has been happening this week.

"J l'm sorry for arriving late when l promised to cook for you tonight ."l say as he put me down to my feet.

"It's okay we can cook together "He knees down to take out my heels.

We walk over to the kitchen to start cooking.
If someone told me 2 years back that my life would turn out like this l wouldn't have believe them.l'm now a trial and corporate lawyer at Dento , a leading law firm in France.

"So how was work today cherie?"He ask as he gets all the ingredients laid out.

We have made it habit that once in a week we cook together.That's how we will be spending time together since we both busy at work and never really have time to go out or something.

"It was stressful, you remember that client l told you last week about? We had a meeting today and it was bad he still doesn't want to listen to my advices.We were  arguing for about 4 hours in the meeting.After the meeting l went straight to my office to calm down then Shantel came and we had a chat until this late"

Jarad is now chopping the vegetables and he starts telling me how it was like at his work today.He is business lawyer and he has his own firm.

I start taking over the and cooking.l put the marinade chicken in the oven.The pasta is almost cooked.l'm doing more of the cooking but Jarad is genuinely contributing to do some.

He comes hugging me from behind. "While waiting for the chicken we can..."He whispers.

"No J , it's almost cooked.Let's set up the table"l say pulling away from the hug.l walk over the cabinets to take out plates.

Jarad sets up the plates on the table.He even put a candle.We have the dinner after we went straight to sleep.

"Baby wake up or you are going to be late for work."Jarad hollers fixing his tie.Everyday he wake up before me.

I have been up just that l'm still in bed watching him dressing up for work.l like watching him get ready for work ,he doesn't know that.

He comes over the bed and lean to kiss me.

"See you in the evening cherie"He says in between kisses.

He grab his briefcase and walk out of the bedroom.It's now my turn to get ready for work.I work a minimum of 12 hours per day but l always leave plenty of work on the table unfinished.The work is so consuming but l enjoy it because it's my passion.

I drag myself off bed and do the usual routine .

I wake up and do the bed , get into the shower,get dressed and finally leaves for work.

Arriving at Dentos .l greet my colleagues in my department and have a chat with few.Then finally get to my office.

Shantel comes to notify me of all my scheduled meetings for today.She mentions that Mrs Agnes ,an attorney from other firm requested a meeting with me today.I wonder what she wants .

"Mrs Agnes is here for the meeting."Shantel says standing over the door.

"Let her in"I say to her.Mrs Agnes enters the office and l get up to greet her.

She doesn't seat by the desk ,she walk over to the couch that is in the corner .l follow her and sit next to her.

I don't personally know her , we only met once at the courtroom.But today l can see that she is not okay , her face shows it .

"My father passed away few days ago "She quietly says.l don't know if should hug to comfort or what.This so awkward.

"Oh l'm so sorry for your loss Mrs Agnes"I gently pat on her shoulder.This is the least l can do.

"I'll be out of the city for a while to attend the funeral"She says.l just nod not sure why she is telling me all this.Did she just request a meeting with me just to tell me this?

She continues. "There is a case that l'm supposed to work on but l'm not going to be able to..."

Where is this going?

I remain silent waiting for her to continue.

"That's why l came to you , to ask you to take the case."She says.

"Mrs Agnes l'm sorry l have a lot of work ..l can't..."

Her phone rings interrupting me.She gets up. " Thank you so much .l will bring the client before the end of day so that you can start working on the case."She walks out of the office.

I have a lot of unfinished cases on my desk and now Mrs Agnes is handing yet another.l will just take it out of kindness because she's in a hard time.Let me spare her so that she doesn't move around looking for lawyer to give the case.

Mrs Agnes is attorney who more specialise more in high profile cases , l wonder whose case is it.Well , l guess l will have to wait and see.

The rest of the day went on with couple of meeting with different clients.That's what l love more about the law it's challenging.

I check the time on the clock .l'm left with 2 more hours before l knock off.Suddenly there a knock on the door.Before l even answer it .Mrs Agnes walk in and stand by the door.

I stand up and walk over closer to her.

"Bonjour . I've brought the client"She says.

"Are they here?"l ask.

She nods and peek through the door. "You can come in monsier"

The door fully opens and the client walks in.I choke with my own saliva when l finally see who just walked in.l gasp so loud.

It's Kylian.

When he finally looks up at me , he freeze.

"Pia?"

"Kylian?"

We say at the same time.
