MAY 4th, 1973. Laurel Canyon, CA

"Suzanne, the band and I, we were thinking we need to talk to you," Billy said. Suzanne found this very strange, as she had only spoken to the man a fair few times. It had to be important if he had gone out of his way to speak to her.

"Oh, yeah sure whats up?" She said, her fully attention now on the man and the entourage behind him.

"It's about the band. Music, I guess. We've been talking, and we think we'd like you to... uh.. to join us," he spoke hesitantly. Suzanne could tell Billy wasn't fully on board with the idea, but the group of grinning faces and nodding heads behind him made it all worth it.

SUZANNE: So, in the spring of '73, I joined the band.

BILLY: When we hit the strip, that felt like we were really coming into our own.

GRAHAM: All of us started to dress a bit better. You really had to step up your game in L.A. I started wearing my shirts unbuttoned halfway down my chest. I thought it was sexy as hell.

BILLY: That was when I really got into... whats it called, a Canadian tuxedo?

EDDIE: Suzanne, she started wearing these tighter shirt and real small skirts. It was like she was the exact opposite of someone like Karen, but they still clashed together perfectly. Hell, I wasn't complaining. She looked sexy as hell.

SUZANNE: Eddie and his bellbottom jeans. God, they drove me wild. Sometimes he still wears 'em, just for me.

EDDIE: Just to pay me back she'll wear a low cut top or something. You know, sometimes, she even lets me–

INTERVIEWER: Okay! Enough of that.

EDDIE: Right, sorry 'bout that.

SUZANNE: He such a tease. [Laughs and looks into distance]

ROD REYES (tour manager, Daisy Jones & The Six):
I thought Suzanne was a great addition to the band, she really added something with her rhythm guitar. Once the band got some good attention, I booked 'em a gig at the Troubadour.

WARREN: That show at the Troubadour, someone in the crowd took a photo of us on stage, man. I was going crazy on my drum set, Billy was making love to his microphone. You can see Graham staring at Karen, as well as Eddie and Suzanne real up close with each other, shredding on their instruments. I think they shared a mic back then, they were that close.

ROD: I saw Teddy Price standing in the back, listening. I hadn't met him before but I knew he was a producer. Figured I might wanna talk to him if I was gonna get this band somewhere.

WARREN: Teddy Price was ugly as sin. A face only a mother could love. [Laughs] I'm just messing around. He was ugly, though.

KAREN: That's the glory if being a man. An ugly face isn't the end of you.

SUZANNE: She said that? I mean, shes not wrong.

BILLY: Teddy asked me if I had anymore songs like the one he'd heard, I said yes, and he handed me a card.

"Where do you see this band in ten years?" Teddy asked.
And Billy said, "We'll be the biggest band in the world."

WARREN: I signed my first pair of tits that night. This girl comes up to me and unbuttons her shirt and says, "Sign me." So I signed her. Let me tell you, that's a memory you have for a lifetime.

The following week, Teddy visited the band at a rehearsal space in the San Fernando Valley and listened to the seven songs they had prepared. Shortly after, they were invited to the Runner Records offices, introduced to CEO Rich Palentino, and offered a recording and publishing deal. Teddy Price, personally, would be producing their album.

CAMILA: That night, Billy comes home and he says, "If I had a record contract, would you marry me?"
And I said, "What? Did you get signed?"
And he said it again, he said, "Will you marry me, yes or no?"
I didn't say anything for a while, but then I said "Yes."

BILLY: And she said, "Yes," and so then I said, "Yes."
She started screaming, so excited. I said, "Come on out here, honey. Let's get hitched."
