GRAHAM: It was a busy time. Billy and Suzanne were always writing. We were always working on some element or another. In and out of the studio, sleeping there sometimes.
EDDIE: So many nights Suzanne and I would stay up until the sun came up, working on a riff or a melody. Those are some of the times I miss the most to this day.
WARREN: That was when I grew my mustache. See now, a lot of men just can't pull off a mustache, but I can. I grew it when we were recording our first album and I have never shaved it.
SUZANNE: He's lying, he shaved it once when he and I went on some impromptu trip. I decided to dye my hair and he was helping me out. I think he got some dye on his finger and didn't realize. He reached up to scratch his face and got it in his mustache. We figured it'd be better just to shave it, he looked like a skinned cat. [Laughs]
WARREN: [Laughs]

INTERVIEWER: When would you say you started to realize what you felt for Eddie?
SUZANNE: Probably the second he gave me his number at the Whisky.
INTERVIEWER: And did you ever plan to say anything?
SUZANNE: Are you kidding? Of course not! I mean, I was terrified. I didn't think someone so great like him could ever love me. I guess my mind started to change a bit after he sang Suzanne. [Smiles]
EDDIE: You know, it's been a very common narrative that I liked Camila. Now i'm not quite sure where they got it from. I thought I was pretty obvious I was head over heels for Suzanne. You couldn't help but fall in love with her, even then. [Smiles]
SUZANNE: I think there was just this undeniable pull between us from the moment we met. It kept us coming back in for more.
EDDIE: It took us a while to realize what that pull was, but when we did... damn was I glad.
INTERVIEWER: And.. was it soon after that?
SUZANNE: Was what, honey?
INTERVIEWER: That you, well, you started dating?
SUZANNE: Oh, yes! I snuck out one night during the SevenEightNine studio sessions, couldn't sleep.
EDDIE: I heard the door shut. Got curious and followed her.
SUZANNE: I ended up at some tennis court, it was covered with some tent like thing. I heard footsteps from behind me, naturally I was scared. I picked up a tennis racket from the box next to me and immediately held it up to defend myself. When I turned around..
EDDIE: [Laughs] She thought I was gonna kill her! It was hilarious.
SUZANNE: [Laughs] You know, he's never told me why he followed me that night, not to this day.
EDDIE: [Smiles, looks away]
SUZANNE: We sat on the court for a while, laughing and talking. Suddenly though, he gets up, and he reaches out his hand for me, and he says, "dance with me." And I shook my head and I said, "dancing is a dangerous game, Roundtree," but then I grabbed his hand and I got up and I started to dance with him.
EDDIE: We kept stepping on each others feet, it was hilarious! [Laughs]
SUZANNE: After a while, he stops dancing and he looks at me as I'm stopping too and he says, "Why'd you sneak out here?" And I think I had to have said something incoherent because he moved his head closer to mine.
EDDIE: I heard exactly what she said.
SUZANNE: We were only about two inches from each other's faces, just close enough that it wouldn't take longer than a second for one of us to lean in and do something.
EDDIE: Obviously it was on purpose. I've never felt more scared than I did in that moment, but I did it anyway. I knew I couldn't live without knowing how she felt. So I leaned in, and I kissed her right on her lips, right there in the middle of the tennis court.
SUZANNE: And I swear I'm not making this up, it started to rain! Right there, as he was kissing me, it started to rain and it was like we were in one of those movies

The pair pulled away from each other and they started to laugh. With squinting eyes and shivering bodies, they leaned back in for more. Suzanne's hands reached up to thumb through his hair, pulling him all the more close.
Eddies hands cupped her rosy cheeks as he separated their faces. "Suzanne, I think I'm in love with you," he said, quick and fast almost as if to get to her answer sooner.
"It's your lucky day, Roundtree, because I feel the same," she smiled back at him. And again she was brought in for a kiss by the man with the biggest smile she'd ever seen.
"Hey! Who's out there? This is private property, I'm calling the police!" A gruff old man shouted.
The two looked at each other with fear in their eyes, as well as bliss.
Eddie grabbed Suzanne's hand quickly, before the pair scurried back to the house in Laurel Canyon.
≈
WARREN: I heard those two sneak in late that night, giggling and happy as ever.
KAREN: I'm pretty positive they had sex that night. [Laughs]
≈
EDDIE: "Just One More" was written and recorded in one day when somebody sent over a batch of grass baked into cookies. The whole song, written mostly by Billy with my help, seems like its about wanting to sleep with a girl one time before you hit the road.
KAREN: It was about all of us eating the cookies and wanting just one more. [Laughs]
WARREN: I took three for myself and hid one of 'em for later and as Billy is writing this song about wanting just one more, I thought, Shit! He knows I have one more!
SUZANNE: I miss those days. [Looks down to lap with sad smile]
GRAHAM: It was a great time, we had a great time back then.
BILLY: It did have that kind if feeling where... you know you're in a time of your life you'll remember forever.
EDDIE: We finished up around March.

NICK HARRIS (rock critic): Their self-titled debut was a respectable entrance into the rock scene. It was straitlaced and economical, sort of a no-frills blues-rock album from a band that knew how to write a decent love song and had really perfected the art of the drug innuendo. A little bit folky, very catchy, lots of swagger, big riffs, hard drums, and that great Billy Dunne smooth growl.
It was an auspicious start.
