"Jungwon?" Sunoo repeated to himself, as he still was processing Sunghoon's statement. If he was not here, where was he?
Sunghoon just cursed under his breath and turned around. "Jungwon!" he shouted, looking again for the boy in other rooms.
Sunghoon proceeded to head into every room of the shop, desperately looking for the nephew who disappeared so suddenly. He continued to shout his name, like a parent who had lost his child.
Sunoo just stood at a doorframe, kind of perplexed by Sunghoon's reaction. Well he knew that it was a serious situation, but he didn't know until now how much Jungwon meant for the elder. Or at least, he couldn't relate not an ounce.
His own mother would have never looked for him like that.
"Jungwon!" he heard Sunghoon exclaim again, but his voice sounded relieved this time. Heading to the last room of the corridor, Sunoo saw Jungwon happily jumping out of the closet and running into Sunghoon's arms.
Sunghoon sighed out loud in relief, hugging the boy close to him. "What were you doing in there?", he asked confused, more concerned and not mad.
Jungwon giggled to himself before his head turned into Sunoo's direction who was standing by the door frame. "We were playing hide and seek!"
"Hide and seek?" both men repeat.
"Yeah! Sunoo Hyung covered his eyes and I told him he had to count to 20 before looking for me!" another giggle left Jungwon's mouth, his smile bright as always.
Sunoo gulped down, now understanding the younger's intentions. Too bad for him that he had fallen asleep and didn't even hear Jungwon's game idea.
"Oh Woonie", Sunghoon kind of laughed, pressing his forehead at the boy's chest. Kneeling down, he added, "you hid yourself so well that we couldn't find you anymore"
Raising his arms in joy, the boy ran over to Sunoo, and stuck his tongue out "I won and you lost!" With that, he giggled some more and ran out of the room.
Sunghoon raised his eyebrows and shrieked with his shoulders, relieved of the outcome of the situation. He looked over to Sunoo, who was thinking of something else.
"I'm sorry" he stated, his glance fixed on the floor. Even if everything turned out well, Sunoo knew that he gave Sunghoon a mini heart attack at least.
Sunghoon waved off with his hand and shook his head "Oh don't worry, everything is alright, no? Don't feel sorry".
The younger raised his eyes, locking them with Sunghoon ones and felt grateful "How about you help me finish the tiramisu?" Sunghoon asked then, to which Sunoo immediately nodded a yes.
As they worked on the dessert, the kitchen filled with the scent of espresso and the sound of clattering bowls and utensils.
"Good job," Sunghoon murmured, his voice low and husky. The other turned towards him, a faint blush creeping up his neck. "Thanks," Sunoo replied, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
They worked in silence for a few moments, each lost in their own thoughts. But as they began to whisk the eggs together, their hands brushed against each other in a way that felt awkward but electric.
It was a simple, fleeting touch, but it sent a jolt of awareness coursing through both of them, especially Sunghoon.
He shouldn't get too attached to the younger, even if he would see Sunoo everyday at work – he didn't know what would happen to himself if he did.
Just an hour later, the two finished their little task by putting the tiramisu on a plate and in the fridge. They would let it rest overnight and eat it the day after.
"I think we should call it a day, okay?" Sunghoon concluded, drying off his hands on a towel. Sunoo hummed agreeing, and grabbed his stuff before saying goodbye.
"I'll see you tomorrow then" Sunoo commented, a little hope in his voice was to reckon.
As he walked over to Jungwon (who was colouring in his colouring book in the meanwhile), he whispered to him, "next time I'll be the one to win, I promise". A smile appeared on Jungwon's face, and it was enough for him to accept the challenge.
