It happens so fast. One second, Ella's standing in front of me, smiling and enjoying her coffee, and the next, I'm on the ground, and she's being pulled away from me.
This is why we travel in groups. This is why we have details and bodyguards. It's all so rival gangs don't pick us off one by one, so they don't kidnap one of us and spend ages bargaining to return them.
But I was selfish. I wanted a moment with Ella to myself, and in doing so, I just advertised a friend to any rival gang that was watching.
I run to my car, heart pounding. I can still see the thugs driving away. I have to follow them. I have to.
She's just a maid.
My father's voice rings in my ears. It's what he would say. She's only a maid, she's replaceable, we've got five more at home.
But I can't let Ella go. I may be the boss, but there's no way I can convince the family to bargain with a rival gang to get a maid back. I'm the only chance she has, and I have to rescue her now or not at all.
I slam my foot on the gas and follow.
