"And she flew off into the midst of the night, with the fresh promise of returning the very next day." Andrea read as she closed the book and pressed a chaste kiss to a young Kalani's forehead before walking out of the room that her daughter slept in.
The halls of their home were painted in dark shadows that danced along the walls as the painted image of branches dancing in the wind were seen against the wall. Andrea continued her walk until she stopped at a large mahogany door.
With a little bit of force, she managed to push it open where she saw her husband peacefully sleeping beneath layers of thick blankets, which forced the question of how he never seemed to overheat to the front of her mind.
But as she stepped in, she was met with a cold breeze as she found her body tensing in an attempt to warm herself, consider her question answered. As her body continued to clench, she waddled over to the thermostats where she read the temperature.
Seventy-six degrees, as it always was, so the dramatic difference made no sense. So, with the intent to call a repairman in the morning, Andrea walked into the bathroom and ran the shower as she stripped herself of today's clothing.
The bathroom was soon filled with steam that seemed to soothe her nerves and warm her body enough for her body to relax. She soon stepped into the shower and was met with hot water that ran smoothly down her body.
Andrea stood there for a few minutes thinking about what could possibly be wrong with the thermostat, it never seemed to really be an issue besides the few times they needed to replace the filter.
But it always ran smoothly. So, for it to suddenly malfunction in such a way was mind boggling. She ran possible scenarios through her mind as she grabbed a washcloth and began scrubbing her body clean.
After a long shower, she carefully stepped out of the shower and onto the fluffy rug in order to prevent herself from slipping on the otherwise cold tile.
With haste, she changed into an oversized band tee and black biker shorts before turning off the light and leaving the bathroom unaware of the yellow glow that shined from a pair of old eyes that watched her from another realm.
"The power is within our reach, sisters."

The next morning, everything ran as smoothly as it could go in the household. Andrea was rushing to grab her daughter's lunchbox and make sure that she had on two matching shoes as the disaster of the blue and green shoes was never something that she'd want to relive.
Lewis was also in a rush as he frantically grabbed a piece of toast from the small pile of bread along with his bag. He had an important meeting with someone and couldn't afford to be late. "I love you my little cloud."
He lifted Kalani and spun her around through the air before placing her back on the floor, he then turned to his wife and pressed a soft kiss to her lips, holding back a laugh as he heard his daughter's complaints of 'Eww, Mommy. Boys have cooties.'
Ignoring his daughter's statement, he ran out of the door before slamming it, causing a baby picture of Kalani that was framed above the doorway to slightly rock before resting back in its original position.
There was only Andrea and Kalani, the latter was rushing as she grabbed a white and blue backpack along with a matching lunchbox before opening the door "Come on baby. We've gotta go. Blooms back today." she reminded her daughter.
Kalani smiled as she jumped from her chair and ran past her mother and straight to the backseat that was covered with old candy wrappers, and tons of finger paintings that they were yet to bring into the house.
