Anthony's POV

Chiron told us about the dangers and perks of being a demigod. He told us about the war in Manhattan, how the Gods were able to live here so long and about a boy named Percy Jackson. Matt replied with details about how we reached here and Dad, how he gave his life to save ours. After 10 minutes of getting to know him, I realised how cool he is. Chiron, the director of activities was a middle aged man seated in a wheelchair behind his desk. After he brought us up to speed in the history of camp, he asked us a few questions.
"Do any of you have difficulty reading English?" We all nodded.
"Dyslexia. Our doctor said it was possibly hereditary, from our mother's side because our father didn't have it," Leia explained.
"ADHD?" Once again we nodded.
"Again, assuming it was from our mother's side."
"Fast reflexes?"
"How do you know all of this?"
"Your doctors were right, it is from your mother's side. Those are the things that keep you alive in this world. Your brain is hardwired to read Ancient Greek, not English. The ADHD and your fast reflexes are what keep you alive in battle," explained Chiron.
All this time I had thought that I was the odd one out at school. I felt like I didn't belong during class. Whenever I was asked a question, I couldn't even read the board half of the time. When I could, it was more like gibberish to me. I don't know how Leia pulled it off because English is definitely not my strong suite.
"Do you know when we will find our mother?" Matt asked hoping for a good answer.
"Unfortunately, the Gods must claim you. Sometimes it takes minutes, sometimes days or weeks," Chiron said.
We all looked at each other, disappointed.
"Cheer up kids. Tonight's capture the flag match will definitely be fun. Oh and participation is compulsory," Chiron said as he wheeled towards the door. Before exiting, he grabbed a conch shell that was placed on a shelf.
"Well, are you just gonna sit there campers?" He asked playfully.
We all got up and followed Chiron out the door.
"Do you mind?" He gave me the conch to hold.
"Sure," I replied taking the shell.
Even after seeing a camp filled with kids sword fighting, archers and small cubes of insta-heal, the centaur definitely was the weirdest thing I had come across. Chiron had transformed from a disabled middle aged man to a glorious brown horse. He extended his arms towards a conch, grabbing it from my grasp.
"Thank you, and yes, I am a Centaur," he said with a smile.
We all smiled. Awesome. Weird, but awesome.
He blew into the conch, calling all the campers to the Big House. The campers grouped themselves into two sides. Some red helmets on one and blue on the other.
"Welcome campers. I hope you are all ready for tonight's match. We have three new friends looking for a team. Any takers?" Chiron announced.
A blue soldier put their hand up.
"We'll take them all," he said.
We went down the stairs and joined the team.
"Michael, son of Athena and temporary team captain," he said.
"Matt, Anthony and Leia," Matt introduced us all.
"Nice to have you on the team. Play this game at school?"
We all nodded. I remember how good I was at this game during P.E.
"It's kinda like that, but with weapons."
I was taken back by the statement. A look of concern was painted clearly on my face.
"Don't worry, I'll help you find your perfect weapon," he said.
"Listen up!" Chiron yelled. Everyone was dead silent. "Let me go over the rules once again. All magic is permitted, but be resonable with your spells, I'm looking at you Hectate cabin. Kevin, put your incantation book away." A large group of campers giggled.
"Every camper who is not injured has to play. Remember, that we are just having fun, Ares cabin mostly. Jayce, we don't anyone to be maimed or else you'll get double punishment." A boy next to me giggled.
"Hey why will he get double punishment," I asked him.
"That my friend, is because he chased me into the girls bathroom with a sword. Last capture the flag match, he also put one of my brothers in the infirmary," he told me.
"What's the punishment?" I asked him.
"The usual, no dessert for a week," he replied.
"That's it? For maiming someone?" I was baffled.
"Your new here, so you don't know how amazing the dessert is," he smiled. "I'm Hunter." He extended his arm. I shook his hand and told him my name. Chiron continued to speak.
"I repeat, killing and or maiming will result in punishment," he said. "Remember to stay in your teams. On the blue team, cabins Iris, Demeter, Hephaestus, Athena, Hypnos, Hermes, Nemesis, Hebe. On the red team, cabins Dionysus, Ares, Aphrodite, Apollo, Hectate, Nike, Tyche. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. Only two guards on your flag at all times, standing ten yards away from the flag. On each side of the forest, both teams must hide their flags. To win, you need to capture the opponent's flag and carry it across the river that divides the middle of the forest. I will be the referee and medic as always. The nymphs will be watching. Now, go get ready. We will meet in the woods in twenty minutes." Everyone instantly dispersed, running towards their cabins. Michael told us to follow him and Hunter had already left.
