Chapter 4: First blood

"Equip" I said, causing weapons to be equipped. "Time to test out this body."

I began to start slowly. I mostly just stood until then, so this was my actual time trying to walk. Oddly enough, it is quite easy to move. Perhaps just as good as my original body when I was running track.

My walking became a light jog. Light jog to heavy. Soon, I began running. Through the treeline, I ended up zig-zagging through them. The leaves blanketed the already darkening sky. As I continued to run. I could cross a monster; it looked a bit darkened, but I could tell from its shape. It ended up squatting, looking at something. But before it could end up turning to face me.

"YOU'RE MINE!!!" I yelled before drawing my wakizashi. And swinging it. It cleanly went through, causing the head to plop onto the grassy ground. I didn't even know what it was until I ended up lighting up my hand with spark, holding onto it before I cast it. Illuminating the surroundings, I ended up spotting what I decapitated. It seemed to be a small green, ugly child. It must be a goblin. "Well, that was a bit underwhelming...."

Still, it could have been worse. It would be quite unappealing if I suddenly felt the urge to throw up every minute. Not to mention messy. Almost as messy as the blood spilling from the open veins of the decapitated neck. So much so, I decided to take a step back, making sure none got on me.

"Note to self, don't do that." I listened. As much as taking that head, with the goblin ears, nose, or death being useful, given that monster games, and fantasy worlds I know typically allow you to sell those parts of a goblin, so this kinda was my goal; to take them and put them into my inventory for selling. However, as the blood began to form into a large puddle, I wasn't able to reach the ears, much less anything, without sullying my boots.

I just got these boots...

Before I could end up leaving, the blood began to let off a disgusting black steam, to which I backed away from. After the black steam dissipated, it revealed that there was no more blood. It seemed that it evaporated, as well as caused the body to decompose, causing it to whither in ash. Better luck next time.

After seeing how they end up dying, as well as being careful not to cause too much blood spewing from them, I ended up understanding how to take these monsters out as well as farm them with greater proficiency. As night continued, more and more monsters ended up appearing from their nests, burrows, and caves. Because of this, I began to have far more fun.

The amount of goblins, even in groups, began to be quite trivial. I was easily able to take out 4 almost in the same swing and with less blood, too. Hearing a louder noise than before, it seemed my instincts of danger. Well, they didn't rise but remained cautious, as I ended up hiding in the bushes to scout the goblins.

Looking at the hoard, it seemed that there were about 15. Looking at them, it seemed that they were foraging for berries, as well as hunting, much like me. I would have been sympathetic, if the 2nd goblin I ended up encountering didn't try to nearly cut my hand off. So, I know that they are actually monsters.

Now looking at them, I could count about 14 in front of me. It was a clear open, it seemed to be where they stockpiled the food they obtained before heading back to their.....well, where they came from. However, even though they are distracted and seem to be easy targets, I shouldn't be wary. As much as this is like the VR I played in terms of combat; I don't feel masochistic enough to want to try out getting hurt here in this world.

When you think about goblins as portrayed in some horror anime, they are typically monsters, who overpower individuals with their quantity of numbers, before making the foe, particularly women, quiver in their wake of helplessness and vulnerability. Harboring this form would only prolong my demise among the goblins, rather than , if male, a less length, albeit it, still painful ending to my life.
