A Tower of Blood in A Land of Prosperity
In the extremely posh and quiet Hauz Khas Enclave area of South Delhi, stands a medieval tower dating from the age of Alauddin Khilji
Alauddin who dreamt of world conquest was obsessed with ensuring stability in his realm at all costs so that he could devote more time to his pet projects
This would mean controlling crime and anti social elements as well.
The minar on the right called the Chor Minar was probably meant to drive the fear of God in the hearts of thieves . It's top stories still have these square openings indicating the standard operating procedure of Alauddin
The opening would have displayed the heads of executed thieves and criminals to set an example in minds of these disturbing elements about their future if they continued in their ways
An example of how this would have looked in its heydays can be seen from a later day example of a different tower of severed heads from the Mughal Age ( image on left)
Undoubtedly a gory sight.
It is a strange irony of today that such a tower is surrounded by the houses of ultra rich and famous - many of whom would themselves have little idea of its bloody past.
