"We once said that only death would tear us apart, Death was late and we split"

THIRD PERSON POV;

Alora and Damian had been dating for two weeks now. One would say Damian was more into the relationship than she was. Yes she had feelings for him, but she was holding back on a lot.

They were all on a stroll, Damian and his friends, Alora and her friends. Damian had failed in his several attempts to place his hands on his girlfriend's waist so he walked ahead of them and went back to his dorm. Kiki looked and Lora but didn't say a word yet. Everyone split ways for a minute and it was just Jason and Alora. They were an odd pair but were close, really close. "I have a secret to tell you my wife" he teased.
"Does Damian know you call me that? What secret?" Alora returned

As he was one of the few guys taller than Lora, he bent over to whisper, "Damian isn't happy with you. He feels like he's dating himself. I heard you guys haven't even kissed yet. You're never there because you're busy with school but he feels neglected. He didn't want to let you know because he understands, it's just how he feels."
Jason was the jokester of the group, but Lora knew there wasn't a single lie in what he said. She didn't say a word again, after coming up with an excuse she went back to to the dorm and cried until they came back.

Isabella was the first to notice she was curled up on her bed, "Lora are you asleep? You have an exam tomorrow..do you want me to wake you up later...oh myy. What's wrong?? Why are you crying ". She called the attention of the others. They let her sleep for a bit before asking her to speak up. As always, Kiki was the one holding her. "Jason told me Damian isn't happy with me. What if he breaks up with me. I wouldn't blame him though, I'd break up with me too. I'm just never enough." She said.

Isabella interrupted the silence with a laugh, "Girl if that's your issue better clean those tears. At least Jason told you. Don't wallow in it and just make improvements. It's that simple. Go and read." She was right and they all knew it, so that night Alora decided to become the best girlfriend ever. From asking to see him more often, to sneaking a kiss sometimes, Damian himself was shocked but pleased, everyone was pleased except Kiki
One evening before she left the room Kiki called Lora to a corner.
"Now Lora you know I only want what's best for you. Are you sure you're okay with the things you're doing with Nine now? This is not you". She had been caught, Alora swallowed, "I'm not exactly the  happiest but a relationship is about compromise and I have to keep him". Kiki sighed, "But for how long?" But Lora didn't have an answer to that question and so she left and Kiki said a silent prayer for her friend, hoping she knew what she was doing.

Alora's semester had come to an end but Damian had a few extra courses to complete, meaning they'd be apart for a while. Lora dreaded this, a lot could happen. She wasn't even scared he'd cheat. She was sure their communication would drop once she got home because of her mother. Ever reassuring Damian promised nothing would happen to them. Little did he know what was happening in his girlfriend's head.
The first week at home was a breeze, she would leave the house to call him. They texted frequently. But Lora was convinced something bad would happen, and the thing about overthinkers is they're always right.

Lora called Kiki that morning frantically. After several rings she picked up. "Bro, I dreamt Nine broke up with me. What if it's a vision or a sign that it's about to happen. Maybe that's why I've been feeling that way. I don't know what to do. Should I break up with him so I'll have the upper hand? Answer mee"

Kiki responded, "You're annoying when you ramble sometimes. It was just a dream let it go and if it bothers you so much talk to him about it " and she disconnected the call. Alora was restless the rest of the day. She picked up her phone, shaking, she texted, "Hey "

D: "Hey cherry. You good? You've been off all day "
L: "I think we should break up "

D: "hmm, are you hungry? Do you want ice cream?"

L: No Nine I'm serious. We're bound to end anyways so let's do it now

D; You better have a reason for this. Did I do something wrong? I'm sorry please don't do this

L; maybe another time, maybe another life we'd get it right. I'm sorry

D: ALORA??!

One would find it hard to believe that Alora shed more tears than the person who actually got dumped that day. "I put him out of his misery. It was for his own good" she kept reassuring herself while breaking down.

Weeks had gone by, school was about to resume and Lora dreaded facing him. Over time she stopped calling him by his actual name and started calling him Nine like the others. She spoke about him a lot, so often that her friends would have to remind her that she was no longer in a relationship with him. But it was hard, she lived in guilt and regret since that day, it was eating her up from the inside. She hadn't heard from him since that day, school had already resumed but he was nowhere to be found, "I have an excuse to text him." She thought to herself, so she did.

L: Heyy
L: how've you been
L: it's been three weeks since school resumed, still haven't seen you
L: just checking in to see if you're alive
L: Damian?

It wasn't until the fifth text that it dawned on her. He blocked her number. He blocked on her on all platforms as if to say, "I don't need you reaching me". Needless to say it hurt Alora's pride. She swore to move on that very day and she did... though some nights were harder than others.

Alora knew she'd heal from the pain she had caused herself but she also knew she'd regret that the decision for a very long time.
