The summer of 1985 had been a wild ride for the residents of Hawkins, Indiana. The Mind Flayer had been defeated once and for all, and everyone was finally able to relax and enjoy the rest of their summer break. For Eleven, however, there was still one challenge left to face: her growing feelings for her best friend, Max.

It had all started innocently enough. Eleven had always admired Max's confidence and rebellious spirit, but over the past few months, those feelings had evolved into something more. She couldn't help but notice the way Max's hair fell in loose waves around her shoulders or the way her smile lit up her face. She had tried to ignore these feelings, but they only seemed to grow stronger with each passing day.

One afternoon, as they lounged in Max's backyard, Eleven finally worked up the courage to tell her friend how she felt. "Max, I need to talk to you about something," she said, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt.

"Shoot," Max replied, turning to face her.

"I think...I think I might have feelings for you," Eleven admitted, her heart racing in her chest.

Max's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, neither of them spoke. Finally, Max broke the silence. "El, I don't know what to say. I've never really thought about us like that before."

Eleven's heart sank at the words. She had hoped that Max would feel the same way, but now it seemed like her feelings were one-sided. "I understand," she said quietly, looking down at her hands.

"Hey, look at me," Max said gently, reaching out to take Eleven's hand. "I'm not saying no, okay? I just need some time to think about this. Can we still be friends in the meantime?"

Eleven nodded, relief flooding through her. Even though Max hadn't given her a definitive answer, the fact that she wasn't outright rejecting her made her hopeful.

Over the next few weeks, Eleven tried to act as normal as possible around Max. They still hung out every day, played video games, and watched movies together, but there was an underlying tension between them that Eleven couldn't ignore. She was constantly analyzing every word Max said, trying to figure out if she had made up her mind about them or not.

One night, as they were lying on Max's bed, Max finally broke the silence. "El, I've been thinking about what you said," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Eleven's heart leapt into her throat. This was it. Max was finally going to give her an answer.

"And I...I think I might feel the same way," Max continued, her cheeks turning pink.

Eleven couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was Max really saying that she wanted to be with her? "Really?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Max nodded, a small smile spreading across her face. "Yeah. I'm scared, but...I want to try."

The two of them leaned in slowly, their lips meeting in a tentative kiss. It was sweet and soft, but it sent shivers down Eleven's spine. She had dreamed of this moment for so long, but she never thought it would actually happen.

Over the next few months, Eleven and Max navigated their new relationship. There were moments of awkwardness and confusion, but there were also moments of pure joy and bliss. They spent lazy afternoons together, exploring the woods and cuddling on Max's bed. They kissed under the stars, danced to cheesy 80s music, and laughed until their sides hurt.

But their happiness was short-lived
