As the summer progressed, so did their feelings. They found themselves drawn to each other, not just as friends, but something more. It was confusing and scary, but exhilarating at the same time. One evening, as they sat by the lake watching the sunset, Max took El's hand.
"El, I don't know how to say this, but I think I feel more than just friendship for you. I don't want to ruin our friendship, but I had to tell you," Max confessed, her heart pounding in her chest.
El looked at her, a mix of emotions crossing her face. She squeezed Max's hand and smiled.
"Max, I feel the same way. I was scared to tell you too," she admitted, her eyes welling up with tears.
