10. I thought you would break your promise!
Luke had been panic stricken and in a state of utter anxiety ever since he observed Christina at his doorstep with those shocked eyes and an expression he had never seen on her face before.
He wanted to stop her and confess to her everything but his guts didn't allow him. Luke preferred to let her go as he himself went back to his bedroom later until something unpredictable transpired with him which brought him here to meet his Tina.
"There has been a huge fucking unbelievable misunderstanding, Tina. You need to come out and listen to me." He shouted, banging at her door with his huge hand.
"Let me try, Luke." Her father came forward.
Luke let him take his place and try to get the door opened from Christina. It was necessary. She had to come out to listen to what he had to say.
This was a shock to himself as well but Luke knew Christina needed to know it better than himself as she seemed to be suffering more.
"Baby, come out and listen to what he has to say. Christy." Her father softly called her.
"I DON'T WANT TO COME. JUST GO AWAY ALL OF YOU. I WANT TO STAY ALONE." A roaring reply came from inside the bedroom thus increasing the paleness of Luke's faces.
It was because of him why she was like this. And it was only him who can handle her emotions never the less she was too hurt to come out; and Luke knew why.
He was certain that she was only doing this to avoid him. She was trying to not see his face which would break her beyond any repair. Those words she heard from his mouth must be haunting her and worrying her. But... She had to come out any way.
"Christina, please just for once... For once... Please open the door." No reply came this time when he called for her.
Her parents as well as some cousins who were home by now were standing outside her room, sighed alongside Luke as they caught the noise of her loud weeping.
"Let me try." They were thinking about how to convince her to come out when a man who was neither Luke or a part of Christina's family, dressed in a neat formal and serious look, stepped ahead.
Mr. Dawson and Luke gave him some space. The man in suit cleared his throat before he addressed Christina in a calm voice, "Hi Christina, this is Mike Potter, Luke's doctor who was treating him with his cancer. And I have come here to rectify the mistake our hospital staff made during printing reports of our patients."
There was still no response and the door wouldn't open. Even then the doctor went on, "There has been a huge misunderstanding, Christina. Our staff mistakenly printed wrong reports due to the confusion with names." No sooner did it come out of his mouth than the door was opened instantly.
"What mistake? What wrong reports are you talking about?" Everyone gasped for Christina was in a messy state.
Her hair was falling all over the place. Her eyes were watery and puffy. Her lips had smudged lipstick around the circumference of her mouth while her clothes were not in places.
It made Luke chuckle. He had a sudden urge to pull her close and kiss her but he knew he couldn't do it unless she heard what the doctor had to say.
"Um, I would like to apologize for this state of yours as I believe it's the cause of the mistake our hospital made. But you can rest assured that Luke, your boyfriend, Luke Wellington has no cancer. He is absolutely fine." Her eyes shed thick tear drops.
Christina shook her head in a no in reluctance as she sobbed once.
"No, you are lying. It is his plan to come and lie to me again so I don't cry. I don't trust you." She refused to trust the doctor and was about to close the door on his face.
But before she slammed it hard, the doctor presented an envelope before her and announced, "Please look at this report. This is Luke's correct report."
Hesitantly with second thoughts, Christina took the envelope and opened it. She was shocked to see that it was indeed her report with the seal of the hospital. What shocked her was the sentence written in bold.
Minor curable lung infection
She was preparing herself to react over the statement but the doctor spoke,
"There were two Luke Wellington with the same symptoms and complaints of lung problems which is why the wrong medical report with cancer as the disease was sent to Luke, who is your boyfriend. And the other Luke who really has cancer received his report. We just got to know about the inaccuracy when Luke Wellington with cancer came to the hospital in a very bad condition with his angry wife. It's after we examined him and checked our database, we realized the reports were wrongly sent to wrong Lukes with wrong results of the tests which were conducted for them, hence creating this huge mess." His deep confident voice made a disapproving yet happy smile to creep on Christina's face.
"Do-does this mean Luke," She choked with tears of happiness forming an irritating lump blocking her voice.
The doctor smiled with a nod of his head as he confirmed, "Yes Ms. Dawson, your boyfriend is absolutely fine. What he has is a minor lung infection which will be taken care of by me. And I can give you in writing that he is absolutely fine."
"You are not lying, aren't you?" She unbelievably said, still not agreeing to him.
"I am not lying, Ms. Dawson. Mr. Wellington has O type blood whereas the one infected with cancer has A type blood group. You can come to the hospital with me to get double sure." He said.
Christina had her eyes fixated at the reports. Her silence was distressing Luke and the others. As a jubilant bubbly girl she was, it was shocking to get such a response from her for this.
They were staring at each other in utter suspense and had no idea of how she would react next when at the same time, with her eyes streaking recklessly and mouth chirping Luke's name, she put her arms around Luke and bursted into tears like a baby.
"I thought you would break your promise... Of living forever with me!!!" Her sobbing made him feel the vibrations igniting in her body.
"Never. I am going to live with you forever." Luke said, caressing her hair.
