Chapter 72. Ruins of Genspenst

Sorry for the long wait, there were some bugs on my iPad that prevented me from publishing the chapters. But the wait is over and I'm back to write more chapters...and also hopefully finish this story soon because I already though of what the ending is going to be like. Just bear with me for a little while longer.

We enter the ruins of Genspenst. The place is basically like a maze tunnel with bits and pieces of rubble everywhere. The walls are damaged but on some parts, there are strange writings in them. Soren examines the writings on the wall.

Zelphine: So how is it?

Soren: Hm...No doubt about it, these are the ancient glyphs. Although I can't read what it says, I have no doubt that Merlin is here to research them.

Zelphine: Speaking of Merlin, Mary-Anne do you know what he looks like?

Mary-Anne: No..at least not really, he usually disguises himself so I don't know what the real him looks like.

Zelphine: Then how're we going to find him?

Soren: Don't worry about it. Merlin is an illusionist. Even if he can disguise himself, he won't be able to hide his branded mark.

Zelphine: So does that mean-

As I was walking, I stepped on something and heard a click. I was then cut off and a trap door open and fling dozens of arrows at us. We got out our weapons and block them but then I heard another click and then spears began to fall from our heads.

Zelphine: What the-! What is this?!

Soren: It seems that we set off some traps. Don't make any sudden movements!

It was easier said than done. With spears dropping down on us, we can't stay still. Just then I heard another click, behind us, a large boulder starts to roll.

Zelphine: Run!!

As we ran, we heard a bunch of clicking noises...meaning we're setting off traps as we go. We had to avoid all the arrows and spears thrown at us. Just then a trap door open under my feet and I began to fall. A chill ran down my spine when I saw spikes at the bottom. Before I fell in, Zero grabbed my hand and pull me back up. While still grabbing onto my hand, he guided me and we kept running. The boulder rolled faster and faster towards us, it was catching up. Just then up ahead, there was a wall slowly coming down to trap us in.

Soren: This isn't good. If that door close, we'll all be squashed. Hurry!

We ran at top speed, Soren tried to break that wall with magic but it was no use since it was protected by a magic barrier. Sloth was the first one there, he tried to lift the wall up so everyone can pass. Zero then grabbed me and we slide under the door before it closed, everyone passed through safely and we heard a loud BANG! From the other side. We were out of breath and tired but at least we survived.

Zelphine: (out of breath) So..(huff)..w..why are there traps..(huff)..in the ruins?

Soren: It really is strange. Not many people visit the ruins, it has been abandoned for millenniums already.

Zelphine: So then why?

Soren: If I have to guess, I'd say someone planted these traps here in order to keep intruders out. And when there are traps, I can be certain that they are protecting something, something important of course. (Smirks) this is getting interesting.
