I woke up in a sweat as I quickly sat up, another nightmare. It had been a whole year since the incident yet thanks to my nightmares it always felt like yesterday. I looked around my room and saw that it was light out I glanced to my clock and saw that it was 7am. Oh great better get ready for school. This would be my first day back since their death, I had a few months of to grieve and then it was summer, there was no denying that I was terrified but I had to go, for them.

I got out of bed and entered the hallway, I slowly walked past my parents' bedroom which remained untouched and I ensured the door was always shut, since the accident I couldn't bring myself to go in. I approached the guest room which was now my Aunt Sarah's room, she had moved in to be my guardian even though in a few weeks I was turning 18. I'm so thankful to aunt Sarah, she's helped me a lot and since she's moved in, I couldn't imagine her not being here. I knocked and entered her room "Aunt Sarah? Just reminding you that it's my first day back" she got up instantly and glanced at the clock, "course it is, I didn't forget" she smiled and got out of bed "get ready and I will take you". My aunt Sarah always looked great especially for someone who just woke up, I exchanged a smile and went to do as she said, she wasn't my real aunt she was a close friend to my parents they had known since before I can remember, I grew up around her and it seemed wrong to not refer her as my Aunt because to me she was family.

My aunt Sarah was so different to my parents, for this I was glad, it meant she would never remind me of them. Once I was dressed, I began to head downstairs where my aunt was already making her coffee with her radio blasting in the background; I smiled at how she reminded me more of a cool big sister which I never had.

My aunt noticed me walk and handed me an apple, I took it and laughed.

"Thanks" she knew that I didn't eat breakfast anymore, so an apple was the only thing she could get me to eat.

"Don't need you passing out from hunger on your first day do we?" she laughed.

The journey to school was hard, I felt nervous which made me feel sick but I ensured I put on a brave face for my parents, I needed to make them proud. My aunt dropped me of and wished me luck; I smiled to her and began to walk in. People started looking and talking amongst themselves, I didn't care about silly gossip but I knew they felt sorry for me, which I didn't like.

"Mel" I looked up to see Sam approaching me, she hugged me so hard I could barely breathe. "C, can't breathe Sammy" she backed of instantly.

"I'm sorry, I'm just so happy your back" Sam had been my best friend since we were kids, she had been a good friend to me since the accident, she gave me space when I needed and comfort when I needed her. It was my turn to be a good friend to her.

"I missed you too Sammy, I'm happy I'm back too" I was happy to be back but at the same time I felt nervous and I didn't know why.

After mine and Sammy's reunion, we headed to class, which luckily we had together. During my first English lesson in a whole year, I chose to reunite with my other friends and caught up on any heartbreaks or gossip I had missed, god there was loads.  My friend Heather who was always the gossiper in our group told me everything, Apparently April was back with jack, Mikey cheated of Kelly, there was so much more but there was one piece of gossip which interested me.

"Oh and There's this new guy, his name is......shit what's his name" heather began snapping her fingers trying to remember the new guy's name. "His names Elijah" Sam stepped in.

"Yeah that's right, can't believe I forget the name of someone so good looking" heather grabbed my hand and smiled. "Seriously Amelia, He's so attractive, and mysterious, he never talks to anyone really" I laughed at heathers weird obsession with this guy.

"So heather how's Eric, you know your boyfriend" heather turned red and started laughing.

"I'm allowed to find other people attractive, doesn't mean I love him any less" I smiled, her and Eric had been together for so long they seemed more like an old married couple.

For the rest of the lesson I couldn't help but imagine what Elijah, the new guy might look like.

After what seemed like forever, lunch finally arrived. I sat to eat with Sam and heather, we sat on the table we always sat at, I was glad that nothing seemed to change. I was picking at my food not really feeling like eating the ham sandwich my aunt had made me, next thing I knew Sam pinched me and motioned towards the entrance of the cafeteria and whispered to me "that's him, that's Elijah"

I was breathless out how attractive he was, heather was right, he had dark brown hair and tanned skin, he was muscly but not too much. I couldn't take my eyes of him even though I knew I probably looked like a creepy stalker. His eyes where a very light greenish blue colour, Wait he was looking at me right in the eyes, I couldn't believe his was actually looking at me. We continued to stare until he sat at the opposite end of the room but before he turned away and smiled.

"Oh my god, Mel he totally just smiled at you" I was pulled from the trance Elijah had me under.

"What, no, he could've been smiling at anyone" Sam laughed.

"Yeah right you two couldn't take your eyes of each other" I look at Sam and smiled not responding to what she had said. For the rest of lunch I couldn't help but glance of to Elijah every so often.

After school Sam and heather had begged me to hang out and agreed we needed to catch up on lost time so I text my aunt and told her my plans and of course she was fine with it, she was probably busy with her new job anyway. Sarah had to change jobs when she moved in with me which was un fair so I didn't mind her staying late or being too busy.

Sam dropped me home and as soon as I walked in I was greeted my aunt Sarah.

"Sooooo, tell me? How was it?" I smiled and told her the truth that I actually had a good day and that I had a great reunion with my friends, but I decided to leave out the part about Elijah I didn't know why but I didn't want her to know. Sarah had cooked dinner and we watched a film, eventually we both gave in to sleep.
